In Jamaica, we know about Pepperpot…the Amerindians, in our case, the Tainu, did it.   Our national dish is ackee and saltfish.

Ackee comes from West Africa, saltfish was the preserved fish from Britain.

    • There are always two sides to ever coin. If an honest person can hide their computer activity, a dishonest person can too! You wouldn’t leave your door wide open, go to sleep, and simply believe that your home will be safe from intruders. Your computer is “your home in cyber space”. DO whatever you have to do to protect it from unlawful intrusion / invasion, without breaking the law yourself of course. Good safety tips! Thanks! 🙂

      • You have to think of your security and focus on it, just as a private person. One is astounded that any agency/organisation would take they security so lightly.

        • Well here’s the thing. The companies and corporations hire people they believe are qualified and will apply their knowledge, skills and abilities to keep the records safe and secure. From the CIO (Chief Information Officer) all the way down to the lowliest programmers, each is expected to “do their job”. When they don’t, bad things can happen. But sometimes, even though they did do their job, there was some malicious attacker out there who took aim and managed to break through anyway. Haven’t we seen buildings and banks with sophisticated alleged “burglar-proof” security systems but they were still broken into and robbed? Like you say though … you got to try to put up some kind of barriers. It’s business and it’s personal!

    • Wow I really enjoyed reading this topic. Marriage plays a big role in our lifes.its great to have that one love forever.but must a say it takes to too make a relationship not one. Your husband or wife is suppose to be your partner in everything. You want always agree with everything but you must learn to listen and understand your partner. Your partner is suppose to be your best friend at the same time. If you don’t show any effort that your trying at all then yes that can ruin EVERYTHING. You gotta show you care and give each other a chance. Don’t set boundaries that you know are impossible or one of the other will eventually get tired and start pulling away. Show each other that you care and wanna make the best out of every situation.

    • The series is not complete. For many people who don’t live in the U.S. they either never got to watch the entire series, or saw a few episodes here and there.

If you live in the 3rd or 4th world many of these series are only available in complete form online.

Hence, watching an entire season is new and enjoyable.

Casting Sherlock Holmes into a modern day environment has often been imagined.  In one way it is enticing, but also holds trepidation.  After all, he was a creature of Victorian England, with all the a […]

    • I enjoy Elementary with its fast talker main character and his more relaxed sidekick. As a matter of fact I enjoy any type of criminal investigation type show ranging from Elementary (of course), to Criminal Minds passing through NCIS and a whole lot more. Very down to earth post. Thank you.

      • If you get to watch Sherlock you’ll see how close they travelled to the original. Putting in many of the Old Holmes features in modern time and day. Elementary basically takes the name ‘Sherlock Holmes’ and a few traits, so it moves off more in its own direction.

        I like crime series myself.

    • “Sherlock, the British version, is absolutely delicious.” DITTO!!

“Elementary is a little harder to swallow.” Hard to swallow??!! How about: Makes you want to throw up!!

      Great review! 🙂

      • After falling in love with Sherlock; Elementary is not easy to accept. It takes a few epis and a movement away from Sherlock Holmes as we know him and as Benedict Cumberbatch portrayed. It is not a bad series, it is just not Sherlock Holmes.

        • It’s not Sherlock. It’s not even Watson! I think Sir Arthur Conan Doyle would be very upset at what was done to his work!

          • As they did with ‘House’…(making a Holmes a House or some other nom de plume) then we could take it on its merits. But in Elementary Sherlock is odious. He is not eccentric, he isn’t brilliant, he’s insane. So I tend to watch it online, one epi a day or so, but as a kind of average crime show…

Having read Sir Conan Doyle much of my life, having seen this chap as Sherlock and that chap, I was completely captured by Sherlock because that was how I imagined him. And Cumberbatch brings a touch of humour a touch of vulerability..(just a touch) and the plots are carefully crafted.

There is really no comparison, it is like Usain Bolt compared to a High School track star.

    • As a thumb rule when one is working in any industry more so in some like an online platform or a television and even a magazine where many people read your article and form an opinion it is not a wise thing to play pranks with the system and with the audience involved. As many a time it can get out of control and lead to unforeseen consequences. If there is a heading as something like a prank corner or jokes section there it can be played. I remember a news became sensation that Jakie Chan had passed away and the world online media and news papers and television was abuzz with the news. Leading to the actor come on television and press and state that he is hale and hearty. While it may sound amusing but so much of time on the internet and peoples mind is consumed by this garbage which could have been used for better purposes. An interesting chosen and well written.

    • Kids are special treat then well

    • This is the error when parents raise children to be children. They stay children all their lives. Legacy businesses almost always fail. The children don’t know how to run it and don’t think there is anything to know.

    • that “SPOIL” term, it means giving the best for the child, not giving what the child wanted.

    • I put in the ‘tests’ so just in case you want to be sure…

The Chinese have been dumping garbage here for years. About 3 years ago I had bought a pair of jeans. I was wearing them the 2nd time… just walking. Not fast. And the crotch tore.

I am not surprised about plastic rice

    • It is a very important which has been existing but not much awareness has been created about the subject all over the world. We always think it happens in other cities or countries and not in my neighbourhood and we may end up consuming something like this which is very harmful. As the world says no to plastics this is a new problem which has been cropping on and off in different countries. Nowadays everything is polluted and all companies has come with genetically modified food and more dangerous varieties of products on our dinner table. Polished rice is one more dangerous product doing the rounds. The rice millers try to do the polishing in such a way that they mix some chemicals and give a coating to give the rice a white and glossy look as it looks attractive and people will pay a higher price. The concerned departments of respective governments of each country have to check this and take stringent action against the culprits. A very useful article.

      • The Chinese have been doing this all over the world. In Nigeria it is a major problem. Now it is in Jamaica and may be in your country.

One has to be so careful, even when they buy ‘fresh’ vegetables. I always pick the ones that look a little handicapped because they are not G.M.

    • There are many countries now victims of fake rice and it originates from China.I do not know why Chinese want to scam the world. They are not afraid , why? they do not have God in their lives. There is no one to fear about wrong doings on earth. Even in their own country, they are not afraid for their country also processed illegal drugs. This is not only my own assumption and not really an assumption for these two happened in Philippines fake rice / plastic rice entered Davao city, but they never prospered especially this time under the new President they will surely land 6 feet below the ground should they not stop exporting fake rice to Philippines There are also many Chinese drug pushers jailed in Philippines ,thousands of them. They were caught manufacturing shabu.

    • That is one of the disadvantages of science. Genius people use their knowledge to cheat other people. All their consciences are totally gone.

They don’t care about the effect of what they are doing. What matters is their needs of wealth.

    • It is a very big problem on internet to identify the legit sites who have to pay the people from whom they make promises and take services before ditching and vanishing into thin air without paying any money to the people concerned. As the web happens to be run by the respective companies whose services are being used to host the scam sites these people who own the web engines and help these scam sites to sprout up should take care that their infrastructure is not being misused as even their name gets spoilt and so does their goodwill. Scams occur in different ways on the internet not only with writing sites and writers but with many other products services and places where information is being provided. If there is a branding, grading, rating and tracking process it would be very useful for one and all using the web for different purposes all over the world.

      • As this is a writing site, I focused on those scams. There are many others, i.e. dating sites, and of course when you go to buy something online.

    • it is really scary nowadays to surf the internet … no once can control anything

      • You don’t use your real name. You don’t use your real address, you never give your credit card number, and never put up a real photo. You’ve just cut your chance of being scammed by 60%

    • The Macedonians played US? Oh man! Somebody needs to tell our politicians cause they’re going after the Russians! I’m not good at geography but I’m pretty sure Macedonia and Russia are on two entirely different points on the map. You don’t suppose the Russians hired the Macedonians. Hmmmm? That would be interesting “connect the dots” scenario.

    • Maybe I’m the only one that can check an IP? Macedonians had no interest in politics. They were looking for money. It was exactly as Ulsterman did. He created ‘The Whitehouse Insider’ because he knew people hated Obama and would read anything and believe it.

The chaps in Macedonia tried a number of different ideas before they hit on this one. It was the Macedonians who said the Pope supported Trump.

These are just young men, not political. They were just spoofing.
