When People Believe in ‘Fairy Tales’

In previous article I recounted an embarrassing prank.

My crew and I made up a story about our friend who did not return to school after Spring break. We claimed she been selected for a special privilege. Hiding the truth, we went in the opposite direction.  To get it all over the school we told the Queen blabber mouth, in confidence.

It was all over the school by lunch.  Then it got bigger and bigger and in shame I tried to tell people that it was a fiction.

I was attacked by all and sundry who thought I was “…just jealous that She got the prize and You didn’t!”

So ends my attempt to force daylight into darkness.

In another article, widening the purvey I mentioned the Fake News on Facebook.  I mentioned the activites of Macedonian youths  and linked their actions with the infamous “Whitehouse Insider”.

What all the articles have in common, is that they are made up stories.  No harm was meant.

Ulsterman was just looking to top Mndestiny’s ‘Johnny Depp Commits Suicide’ hits. He didn’t realise that people would actually believe his rubbish.

Ulsterman didn’t imagine that the more ridiculous his articles against Barack Obama became the more readers would flock to his site.

Fortunately, it did Obama no harm.

The Youths in Macedonia just wanted money. They just wanted a viral post to get money from Ad Sense. They weren’t looking to embarrass Facebook, they weren’t pro-Trump, they were just selecting  topics that would get a lot of hits.

Although they did get a lot of economically beneficial hits, some youths getting $3,000.00 U.S. a month, and one even earned $5,000.00 U.S. on one day, they never thought they would influence the American election.

They had just made up stories and posted them because they’d be paid for every hit.

They could have written about anything, for they knew as much about the American Elections as you do about the politics of Macedonia.

Now that there is a big inquiry into these sites, the Macedonians are standing around, looking confused.

How could anyone believe, really believe their stories?

Ask Ulsterman.

    • As a thumb rule when one is working in any industry more so in some like an online platform or a television and even a magazine where many people read your article and form an opinion it is not a wise thing to play pranks with the system and with the audience involved. As many a time it can get out of control and lead to unforeseen consequences. If there is a heading as something like a prank corner or jokes section there it can be played. I remember a news became sensation that Jakie Chan had passed away and the world online media and news papers and television was abuzz with the news. Leading to the actor come on television and press and state that he is hale and hearty. While it may sound amusing but so much of time on the internet and peoples mind is consumed by this garbage which could have been used for better purposes. An interesting chosen and well written.
