Snake Island, Brazil

Brazil’s Ilha da Queimada Grande—dubbed Snake Island —is home to a dense population of one of the world’s deadliest snakes. The golden lancehead viper’s venom is so poisonous that it melts human flesh around the bite, and some claim there’s one snake per square meter in certain areas. For safety reasons, the Brazilian government doesn’t allow visitors, and a doctor is required on the team of any research visits.

U.N. buffer zone, Cyprus

Turkish troops invaded Cyprus in 1974, sparking a civil war between the Greek and Turkish inhabitants. When the fighting ended in a ceasefire, the United Nations took control of a no-man’s land “buffer zone” in the country’s capital, Nicosia. There, walls separate the Turkish community in the North (which Turkey, but no other countries, recognizes as a separate state) from the Greek community in the South. Behind the walls are abandoned homes and businesses. Some “Civil Use Areas” allow civilians, but other areas have been practically untouched for decades. Check out photos of the Nicosia airport and other eerie abandoned airports .

Tomb of the Qin Shi Huang, China

Farmers discovered the tomb of China’s first emperor, Qin Shi Huang, in 1974, and archaeologists have since found about 2,000 clay soldiers and expect there are another 8,000 still uncovered. Despite the excavation, the Chinese government has forbidden archaeologists from touching the central tomb with Qin Shi Huang’s body, which has been closed since 210 B.C.E. The decision is partly to respect the dead, but also from fear that current technology isn’t up to snuff for excavating without damaging the ancient artifacts. (Next, learn about the mysterious chamber scientists recently found in the Great Pyramid of Giza.)

Chernobyl, Ukrain

On April 26, 1986, an explosion near Chernobyl, Ukraine, (which was then in the Soviet Union) became the worst nuclear accident in history. Although the death counts caused by radiation are impossible to pin down, experts estimate between 9,000 and one million people will die of cancer from radiation. More than 30 years since the disaster, cleanup projects are still undergoing, and the power plant’s director guesses the area won’t be inhabitable for at least 20,000 years.

Area 51, Nevada

The U.S. government wouldn’t admit Area 51 existed until 1992 documents released in 2013 mentioned the Nevada military base. Officials still haven’t revealed what type of research goes on, though conspiracy theorists claim alien activity is studied there. You can get a birds-eye view of the spot on Google Maps, but the sprawling desert makes it hard for anyone to sneak in, and security is tight. Even visitors with security clearances reach Area 51 on private planes that keep the windows drawn until landing. Learn more about how Area 51 stays so secretive .

North Sentinel Island, India

In the Bay of Bengal sit the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, most of which are Indian territories. The Sentinelese tribe of North Sentinel Island is thought to have been there for 60,000 years, and it’s one of the last communities in the world to remain totally isolated from outside societies. In 2006, the boat of two fishermen drifted to the shallows of North Sentinel Island, where the Sentinelese killed the pair. Since then, there have been other reports of the tribe shooting arrows at passing helicopters. Because the Sentinelese haven’t been in contact with the diseases others have built resistance to, contact with outsiders could prove deadly to the tribe, so the Indian government has agreed not to attempt any contact. Don’t miss these other 25 weird international laws you’d never believe are real .

Vatican Secret Archives, Vatican City

Housed in a heavily protected area of the Vatican are

53 miles of shelves containing documents relating to the Catholic Church, dating as far back as the eighth century. Some artifacts include a letter from Mary Queen of Scots begging Pop Sixtus V to save her from beheading and documents of Martin Luther’s excommunication. The archive opened to researchers in 1881, but it isn’t easy to get a pass inside. Researchers who apply for access can only have access for up to three months, and no more than 60 scholars are allowed in at once.

Fort Knox, Kentucky

The Fort Knox vaults, home to most U.S. gold reserves, have been deemed the most heavily guarded place on the planet. No single person can make it into the vault; several combinations need to be entered to gain access, and various staff members know just one. Even they wouldn’t be able to get in without the help of their colleagues. Learn more about Fort Knox’s insane security measures.

Svalbard Seed Vault

Plunging more than 320 feet into a mountain between Norway and the North Pole, the Svalbard Seed Vault holds a massive collection of seeds in a vault designed to withstand manmade and natural disasters. If a major catastrophe happened, the 890,000 preserved seed samples from almost every country in the world would ensure diverse food options. The vault opens its doors just a few times a year, and a limited number of depositors are allowed inside to deliver the seeds to its shelves. Still, climate change might test how effective the Svalbard Seed Vault is. In May 2017 , melted permafrost made it inside, though none of the water—which froze inside—reached the vault with the leaves.

Lascaux cave, France

The prehistoric paintings in the Lascaux cave were found in 1940, and it became a tourist site after World War II. The carbon monoxide from visitors’ breath started to damage the cave paintings, which are now named a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the cave

closed to the public in 1963. Replicas opened for business after it closed, but only preservationists and researchers are allowed in the original. Check out some of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites you can (and should) visiT.

Not all traits are created equal, double down on these to reach your potential.
April 21, 2018

Any qualities contribute to success, but some traits are indispensable if you want lasting success and joy. CHECK on these.
1. Fail well
Barbara Corcoran Courtesy of The Oracles
To be successful, you must know how to fail well. After I signed the contract to be a Shark investor on “Shark Tank,” the producer changed his mind and decided to give the one female seat to someone else.
Rather than accepting defeat, I immediately sat down at my computer and banged out a quick list of things in my career where I’d found success after someone said I wouldn’t. I told the producer that the best things in my career happened on the heels of each failure, so I considered his rejection to be a lucky charm. The next week, I booked a flight to L.A. for a second chance and got the job.—Barbara Corcoran, founder of The Corcoran Group and Shark on “Shark Tank”
2. A winning mindset
Trevor Chapman Courtesy of The Oracles
To reduce success to its most basic form, understand the foundational element is the verb, to win . So if you want hyper success, you have to win.
There’s a lot of hype around “hustling,” “grinding,” and going into “beast mode.” While hard work and the grind are necessary to success, those elements don’t
necessitate success. If all it took was hard work, every farmer, construction worker, and fisher would be uber successful.
Is hard work important? Yes—but hard work is a baseline. Hard work is like showing up for practice. However, it’s not the hardest workers that get drafted into professional sports: it’s the winners. To win, you have to endure years of losing while honing the craft. To win, you need a resilient heart while others win, usually before you.
What you focus on grows. Take the time to focus on the craft of winning in business. You’ll reap what you sow. —Trevor Chapman, proven entrepreneur and digital strategist who has generated over $100 million in sales for his businesses and partnerships; follow Trevor on Facebook
3. Persistence
Dottie Herman Courtesy of The Oracles
I began my career at Merrill Lynch, working my way up the ladder, becoming a manager, a regional manager, and finally, running the whole company from the Long Island office.
When Merrill Lynch decided to sell its real estate offices, I wrote a letter offering to buy them. There was one problem: I had no money. Prudential bought that business instead, and I worked for them for several years—until they decided to sell. I once again attempted to buy the offices, and this time, I refused to give up.
After six months, I finally convinced Prudential to lend me $8 million, plus working capital. When I knew we had a deal, I stood in front of the 1,600 agents in the Long Island division and asked them to stay—and they did. While I had been a businesswoman for several years, that was the day I truly became an entrepreneur. In business and life, never give up. —
Dottie Herman, CEO of Douglas Elliman, a real estate brokerage empire with more than $27 billion in annual sales
4. Perseverance
Jonathan Gilinski Courtesy of The Oracles
Success isn’t an accident; it’s the natural result of hard work, learning, sacrifice, and above all: perseverance.
When I started Capsuline in 2002, I was hand-packaging, labeling, and fulfilling all orders myself. As Capsuline grew, I learned how to incorporate technology to streamline order fulfillment.
Perseverance mixed with automation led to reduced lead times for my customers, improved client relations, and most importantly, maximized profits.
Had I given up when times were tough, I wouldn’t have witnessed the evolution of the capsule industry and e-commerce. For me, the formula is simple. If you persevere— even when times are tough— you can achieve greatness. —Jonathan Gilinski, serial entrepreneur, executive director of CapsCanada, and founder of Capsuline; follow Jonathan on LinkedIn and Twitter
5. Unbridled passion
Thomas Carter
To be successful, you need one thing: passion. That led me to create, market, and manufacture a pioneering wakeboard that landed me on the cover of Success Magazine. But when passion is mixed with purpose, you become unstoppable. To stay focused and on the right track, constantly ask yourself: “What’s my why?”
These days, my “why” is to liberate entrepreneurs while providing investors with better data. My goal is to build the best FinTech software on the market and help entrepreneurs launch their startups. To be successful, find your passion and purpose, and don’t let anything get in the way. —Thomas Carter, founder and CEO of DealBox Inc; connect with Thomas on
6. Drive
Jason Hall.
Failure can help you evolve. Lessons learned can motivate needed self-improvement. To develop a healthy appetite for failure, get uncomfortable with your inner self. Push yourself to overcome obstacles that you might otherwise avoid. Stay driven and intent on mastery. Once you’re comfortable being uncomfortable, you have a unique edge that most don’t.
When you practice tackling obstacles head on, you’ll also learn your inner voice is often the biggest obstacle of all and not the actual actions necessary to achieve success. Pretty soon, you’ll look forward to failure—knowing that there’s a better you on the other side. —Jason Hall, founder and CEO of FiveChannels; generated $17M+ in sales revenue for his clients in 2017
7. Tolerate ambiguity
Shaun Rawls Courtesy of The Oracles
Successful entrepreneurs all have one thing in common: a high tolerance for ambiguity. While most people take paths that lead to predictable outcomes, entrepreneurs trailblaze their own paths toward destinations that only exist in their hearts and minds. You must hold fast to your vision, regardless of how improbable, unproven, or uncertain the journey may be.
As an entrepreneur, to create something that never previously existed, you risk what the rest of the world is unwilling to sacrifice: money, pride, and ego. Along the way, you’re constantly told “No,” “You can’t,” and, “That’s impossible.”
Rather than letting uncertainty hurt your confidence, use uncertainty like fire to forge your resolve and accomplish what others said was impossible. —Shaun Rawls, lifelong entrepreneur, founder, and CEO of Rawls Consulting
8. Adaptability
Michael Johnson Courtesy of The Oracles
To be successful, you need to respond to the changing environment around you. Many business owners get stuck because they insist on maintaining status quo, even when people grow, regulations change, and markets fluctuate around them.
Adaptability is key to successful relationships and living a balanced life. As the demands on your energy, time, knowledge, and physical and mental health grow with your professional journey, you need to be able to re-allocate and adjust your energy accordingly.
I avoid getting stuck in a fixed mindset by reading, learning, studying, and hanging around people who think differently from you.. By exposing myself to novel ideas and settings, I’m constantly honing my ability to adapt.

One of things many of us fear the most is premature ageing. We don’t want to age quickly, and many of us don’t even want to look our real age. Instead, we want to continue looking younger, basking in the fountain of youth for as long as possible.
But if you constantly check yourself in the mirror each morning and worry that you’re ageing really quickly, you might want to take a closer look at your habits. Yup, it’s often these “little things” that cause premature ageing. So let’s take a look at 10 habits that age you.
1. You Lounge Around A Lot
Lots of people enjoy coming home from work and kicking back in front of the television. It helps us to relax and alleviate the stresses of work. But if you don’t get any exercise, you could well be adding a few years to your face.
If you burn less than 500 calories a day, you’re also putting yourself at risk of an early death. Living the life of a couch potato is directly linked to diseases, such as diabetes, cancer and heart disease.
2. Binge Drinking
A few drinks on a Friday night after work is a habit shared by many of us. It’s good to get out with colleagues, and have a laugh over a few drinks. But if you have more than a few, you could be putting yourself at risk of early ageing.
Whilst moderate alcohol consumption is actually recommended, binge drinking most definitely is not. Not only can 5-6 drinks in any one night put pressure on your organs, such as your heart and liver, but it can also cause your skin to wrinkle and sag. Which is not cool.
3. Smoking
Smoking is one of the worst habits you can have if you’re trying to avoid early ageing. Smoking has a negative effect on pretty much every single cell in your body – which is a lot of cells, actually trillions!
Not only this, but smoking also puts you at risk of developing several cancers, including lung, stomach, mouth, throat, kidney, blood and bladder cancer. The good news is that if you kick the habit, you’ll feel and see the rewards almost instantly. Your skin will look fresher and healthier, and you’ll slow down the ageing process. It certainly isn’t yet a lost cause.
4. Drinking With A Straw
You’ve probably seen many ladies sipping their drinks through a straw, and perhaps you do this yourself. Whatever the reason for sipping through a straw, there are actually no health benefits. In fact, sipping through a straw is actually really bad for encouraging signs of ageing.
What happens is that you pucker your lips as you sip, and this helps lines to form around your lips. Over time, your skin is strained until eventually your left with permanent smile lines. These creases are a surefire sign that you look older than you actually are. Oops!
5. Leaving The House Without Sunscreen
Leaving the house without sunscreen despite baking temperatures and a big yellow ball in the sky saying: “I’M GONNA BURN YOU” is still very easy to do, and lots of us do it. We either simply forget to apply sunscreen, or we’re in too much of a rush to do it. Either that, or we assume that going out for a few minutes without sunscreen is “not that bad.”
But it is. Even walking your dog for 15 minutes without sunscreen can cause significant damage from the sun. Over time, these 15 minutes of exposure can cause some serious damage to your skin, causing you to age quicker than you intended.
6. Lack of Sleep
Even when you’re thirty it can be so easy to believe that you can still indulge in the bedtime habits of a teenager. After all, you’re only 30, right? Part- ay!
But, no. Just no. As you get older, you really need to start getting more sleep. Sure, it can be difficult when you’ve got a lot of work to do, and sure it can be even more difficult when you’ve got a box set to catch up on. But a lack of sleep can make you look tired and old . Moreover, it can also increase your risk of diabetes, weight gain and high blood pressure.
7. Candy
Everyone loves a bit of candy now and then, but candy should be seen as a reward at the end of a pressurised week. It should not
be the norm. For example, if you eat candy every time you watch a movie, you’re in trouble.
See, the sugar content in treats is really bad for your skin. What happens is the sugar attaches itself to proteins to create new molecules known as advanced glycation end products. When these start to develop at an increased rate, they basically invade your skin’s protective proteins, such as collage and elastin. And then they attack.
As a consequence, your firm and elastic skin becomes dry and brittle. Hmm.
8. Lack Of Fruit And Vegetables In Your Diet
To healthy, glowing skin, you need fruit and vegetables in your diet. If you subsist on junk food and meat, you might feel more fulfilled in your stomach, but you’ll be showing all the signs of premature ageing.
According to the experts, the best fruit and veggies you can eat for younger skin are the colourful ones: yellow peppers, beetroot, kiwi fruit and so on. You also need to make sure that you’re getting enough omega-3 fatty acids, which you can get from oily fish.
9. Stress
When we’re stressed, we actually feel older. And when we look in the mirror, we sure look older too. Therefore, if you’re stressed, you really need to work on remedying the situation.
Identify your stress triggers and try to work on them. You can’t remove all sources of stress from your life, but you can minimise the triggers and their impact. Moreover, you can do things to reduce stress, such as laugh, take a vacation or go for long walks.
10. Only Eating When You’re Starving
If you only wait until you’re like really hungry before eating, you might presume that you’re doing your body a favour. After all, you’re only eating when you’re hungry and therefore you’re not bingeing on junk.
But waiting until you’re starving can lead to overeating, which in turn can lead to excess weight and premature ageing. We suggest that you do indulge in snacks, but make sure they’re healthy snacks. For example, almonds, blueberries or pumpkin seeds.
Stay happy and healthy!

8 Bad habits to avoid that are ruining your relationship.
April 21, 2018

When a couple has been together for some time, the little habits, that used to just mildly irritate, can escalate into really big issues that can ruin a relationship. The problem is though, with habits, we barely notice ourselves doing these things and we don’t even realize that they are annoying. When you first fall in love, you don’t really care about some of these little annoying traits that your partner has, but after a few years they can really begin to grate. We’ve compiled a list of the top eight habits that can ruin a relationship, so check it out and see if you, or your partner, are guilty of any of these:
1. Checking up on your partner
You might think it’s completely innocent to casually check his phone or email, but everyone has a right to some privacy. If you need to check on his every movement during the day and know where he is all the time, then your lack of trust will eventually cause a problem in your relationship.
2. Keeping score
Forgive and forget should be the bywords of a relationship and if you are keeping a note of every single little mistake that he makes then this is going to get tiresome. Even things like who did the dishes last or who took the rubbish out really shouldn’t matter between a loving couple, and constant score keeping is only going to cause unnecessary tension.
3. Nit Picking
Are you someone for whom nothing is done right unless you do it yourself? If, every time he cleans the bathroom, you point out that he’s missed a bit or if he puts round the vacuum cleaner and you immediately do it again yourself, you are going to stop him even trying. Constant picking at everything he does will make him feel unwanted and not valued and he will give up and go out with his friends instead.
4. Criticising his family
You are putting yourself in a difficult position, if you are constantly criticising his family. Even he, himself, probably thinks, at times, that his family is annoying, but he’s allowed to say that, you are not. No one likes to hear others running down their own flesh and blood, and if you do it too often, you are going to make this a bigger issue, than it really is.
5. Raising awkward subjects at the wrong times
There are right times to discuss important issues and there are wrong times. Just because the time is right for you, doesn’t mean the time is right for him. Raising a thorny issue like finances or a problem with the kids, the second he walks through the door after work, is only going to stress him out even more. The other one to avoid is raising difficult topics right after lovemaking: ‘That was great; did you know we are overdrawn at the bank again?’ That’s not cool!
6. Arguing in public
Bite your tongue until you get home! You may well need to get something off your chest, but arguing in public, or worse, around his parents’ home, is really going to drive your partner mad. If you find yourselves regularly arguing in public, then this is something that needs to be changed – you need to talk about it in private.
7. Using the silent treatment
Never use the silent treatment to punish your partner; it will only cause even more resentment and bad feelings. Practicing the art of silence is never going to solve anything and, if you are both at it, someone has to give up eventually or you might as well not be together at all.
8. Ignoring your partner
No one likes to be ignored, it’s even worse than being shouted at. Ignoring a person is the same as saying to them that they are so unimportant to you that you can’t even be bothered to talk to him. If you are ignoring each other on a regular basis and barely even acknowledge each other’s existence, then you have a real problem on your hands that needs be resolved.
Do you have some other relationship tips to share?
Stay happy!

“Is my atheist father in heaven?” —tearful boy asks Holy Father
See Holy Father’s reply to an emotional child who wanted to know if his atheist father is in heaven.
Pope Francis meets a tearful boy who asked, “Is my atheist father in heaven?”
The head of the Roman Catholic church had an emotional moment with the kid during a visit to a parish community in Rome, Aleteia reports.
While meeting young children in catechism courses, the Pope was approached by a crying little boy named
Emanuele who wanted to ask a question but was unable to get it out.
Pope Francis encouraged him to whisper it in his ear. He did and the pope responded with a lengthy answer.
Here is a translation of their exchange:
Emanuele: I can’t do it!
Pope Francis: Come, come to me, Emanuele! Come to me and whisper it in my ear. Whisper it in my ear. Come, come, come to me.
[Emanuele goes to Pope Francis and whispers his question in his ear]
Pope Francis: If only all of us could cry like Emanuele when we feel sorrow like he does in his heart. He was crying for his dad, and he had the courage to do it before all of us because he has love for his dad in his heart. I asked Emanuel permission to repeat his question in public, and he said yes. So I’ll say it out loud: “A short time ago, my dad died. He was an atheist, but he had all four of his children baptized. He was a good man. Is Dad in heaven?” What a beautiful thing, that a son says of his father, “He was good.” That man gave a beautiful testimony to his children, for his children to be able to say, “He was a good man.” It’s a beautiful testimony on the part of the son that he has inherited his dad’s strength, and also, that he has had the courage to cry before all of us. If that man was capable of raising children like this, it’s true, he was a good man. He was a good man. That man didn’t have the gift of faith, he wasn’t a believer, but he had his children baptized. He had a good heart. And [Emanuele] is doubting whether or not his dad, not having been a believer, is in Heaven. God is the one who decides who goes to heaven. But how does God’s heart react to a Dad like that? How? What do you think? … A dad’s heart! God has the heart of a father. And faced with a dad, a non-believer, who was able to have his children baptized and to give them that courage, do you think that God would be capable of leaving him far from Him? Do you think so? … Say it loudly, with courage…
All: No!
Pope Francis: Does God abandon his children?
All: No!
Pope Francis: Does God abandon His children when they are good?
All: No!
Pope Francis: There you go, Emanuele, this is your answer. God surely was proud of your dad, because it’s easier to have your children baptized when you are a believer than to have them baptized when you are not a believer. Surely, this pleased God greatly. Talk with your father, pray to your father. Thank you, Emanuele, for your courage.
We’ve spoken about his dad, and our dad is God. Let us all pray to our dad, God.
“Our Father…”.
And now I’ll give you the blessing. May every one of you think of the people you love, the people who care about, the people who care about you, and also those we don’t like and who are a bit like enemies. Let us pray for them too, so the Lord will bless them too. May He bless all of us and enlighten our heart.
