DR KOKIL AGARWAL wrote a new post, IS SHOUTING AT KIDS JUSTIFIED? 7 years, 8 months ago

Raising kids is one of the biggest challenge that any person has to face in life. It is a big responsibility that needs full devotion, dedication, time and energy.
Present day parents can easily agree to the […]

    • Parents should know about this; especially young parents who do not know what shouting at their children can do to them. Thanks for giving this information; that it affects them emotionally even in their adult lives.

They should really be patient in explaining to their children what they wanted them to do, or for them to behave; it can be done in a nice way.

    • Very true. We didn’t ever shout at our daughter when she was a kid. Instead , we talk to her in a soft voice about what we would like to correct on her.

We cajole her into following our advise.

For example when we are at the mall and she wants a new dress or toy we will tell her we don’t have that in our budget. But we can just buy one on my payday.

Thus. she won’t insist anymore. From then on, when she wants something at the mall , she would ask “Do you have money, mother. I like that one but if you don’t have the money, we will buy it next time when you have your payday again” .

She grew up to be a smart and thrifty girl. 🙂

    • A issue which many parents are trying to find out how to cope with this issue. From my experience I have observed is that children are very intelligent and they are able to make out clearly what can get the work done for them. They understand things whom they can trouble and make them run around and who they cannot fool around with. The best answer is one should not shout at them but at the same time be stern in their tone children understand the tone better. Later once they fall in life they also have to be counselled what they are supposed and what is expected of them and why.

If they feel convinced that the rational being put before them by their parents is logical they will most probably understand what is being told and fall in line. It should be a nice mix of different tactics which will make them understand things and most importantly if they feel it is for their good and are convinced they will fall in line and understand. Thanks for raising an important issue which many parents are struggling to figure out and many are confused.

    • Well, where I come from shouting is the order of the day, but in the end it hardly yields result. Going by this article, it’s like beating a child constantly to change the child, but its the reverse, the child gets used to the beating. I have learnt to control my anger these days, because shouting just gets it done at the moment, but not permanently.

    • Kids hated to be shouted at, they find mom annoying, nagging and bothersome.
Ends up not listening and lots of argument follows.

    • I believe it’s not an easy thing to raise a child but yelling and shouting all the time, it won’t help too much. I think it’s better to try and explain things to a child than to yell all the time and stress kids out. But sometimes when it gets overwhelming I think you almost can’t help but shout at kids.

    @PEEUSH TRIKHA

Yes, in everything , the key is moderation.

Taking of drugs in excess can make us sick or addicted to it.

Overeating of oranges in a day can result to stomachache.

Just eat one or two everyday so you can reap it’s health benefits. And this is true with all kind of foods.

Yes, she could have died , had the family did not opt for a second opinion for the gallstone operation that the doctor advised to be done at the soonest.

This actually happened about more than 15 years ago. […]

    • Good thing your family sought a second opinion. It is so saddening that some doctors would just decide on conducting an operation on the patient without considering some of the perils involved.

We should also be careful with our diet to avoid such ailments, or the so-called lifestyle diseases.

      • From then on, we know already that we should always seek second opinion when it is a serious ailment.

Good thing that now our daughter is already a doctor. We can always seek her second opinion since she’s not here in the province where we reside.

Indeed, even at an early age, we should learn how to live a healthy life without depriving us though, of the delicious foods. The key is to eat in moderation, exercise or being so mobile and having a happy disposition in life.

We all are facing the issues with the pollution. And there are very serious issues that are arising due to the carbon footprint. And not a lot of people are helping the economy. I would say that it is right time […]

    • What you enumerated were alternative sources of energy that will help save the environment from pollution and further degradation. It is true, we need to lessen carbon footprint; and this has been a hot topic among developing and developed countries, as to to had caused so much pollution/greenhouse gases that results to global warming and climate change which mostly affects poor or developing countries.

    • Agree with all the methods which have been well enunciated in the article. I feel the most important thing is the attitude of human behavior which is materialistic and the craving for more and more new things when already possessing those. People keep changing the mobiles every three to six months to buy a new model, similar is the case with computers, laptops, ipads, notebooks and other such IT related systems. Look at this a technology like yoga which is an ancient system does not pollute but instead betters ones life and causes less pollution. While technology like the one I mentioned which are important also have a negative effect on ones life and need constant upgradation. It is not a one time purchase and use for many years as it earlier used to be. Companies want to increase their sales and are indulging in offers to lure customers and selling products which increase carbon footprint.

In Indian one good change when it comes to power generation which I have seen is the use of solar energy. There are many big solar power plants which are being constructed and run successfully all over the country. India has abundant solar power and it is a clean source of energy. The school where I used to work earlier has solar power everything is connected to only this and the school does not but any electricity outside. It is a big school with around 1500 children. I liked that one aspect about the school. Imagine all schools doing the same and how much power is saved and how clean energy systems will become popular among the public as children are having good influence on parents as to what to buy.

    @ichchhemrityu
Yes some have been distorted very much. There is currently a show “ChandraNandini” on Star Plus, which looks like it has distorted the historical events during Chandragupta Maurya’s time a bit too much.
Programs like “Bharat Ek Khoj” were better and even “The Sword of Tipu Sultan”.

Aquariums are known to be exotic and entertaining for anyone who is interested into underwater life. There are plenty of things we can look at when it comes to the aquarium. And we can learn a lot about the fish […]

    • An interesting subject which I like. I like aquatic life. I have been to water bodies and have observed many fish and different reptiles like snakes and amphibians too. Going and being the waterbodies I find calms ones mind and provides the much required freshness for the mind which will be taxed due to our regular schedules in life. One can also observe many birds species which seek food near these water bodies. I have been to three aquariums in my life.

The first two are in Hyderabad which I used to visit when I was young one was at Jawahar Bal Bhavan and the second on was at Rotary park. The third one I visited was at Chennai. The ones in Hyderabad were well maintained at that time I really do not know what the situation is now. As this was many years back. One more thing was at the time the water in the Hussain Sagar lake was crystal clear it has been totally polluted now. I could clearly see many fish in the lake and snakes too at that time. The information provided above makes a good read whenever one happens to visit these cities going there would be definitely worth the experience.

    • I like to watch fish swimming, along with other water creatures. They are so beautiful to look at even in small aquariums.

I think the best way is to eat natural, fresh foods like fresh vegetables and fruits. We ought to take care of food combinations like not eating milk with fish, or meat.
    Avoid curds with pickles.
Do not eat too much refined flour products like cake, pastries, samosas(Indian fried stuff).
