Regarded as the most famous woman in history Cleopatra(C68 – 30BC) was the daughter of Ptolemy V although, like her father, not Egyptian. In 51 BC she became joint ruler of Egypt with her young brother but they quarrelled.

She was forced to leave and go into Syria. At this time Julius Caesar arrived in Alexandria and Cleopatra, using her charms, persuaded him to make war on her behalf. Her brother was killed and she became Queen of Egypt once more.

Caesar took her to Rome with him, but following his assassination she returned to Egypt. She then became the mistress of Marcus Antonius (Mark Antony C 83 – 30 BC) and added her fleet to his at the Battle of Actium(31BC), where she fought against Octavian ( later to become Caesar Agustus). Realizing all was lost, she poisoned herself with an asp; the line of Ptolemies ended with her death and Egypt became a Roman Province.

The life of Cleopatra was turbulent it seems to one that she became the queen once only to be removed and had to move out of her own kingdom. The second time again she got the kingdom but this time fate had other plans and Caesar had an untimely death.

The third time unfortunately she had to be a mistress of Mark Antony and alas once in the battle against she found that she ended up becoming  Caesar Agustus and seeing she lost everything had to resort to ending her life. She got an entitlement of becoming a joint ruler then a  queen which she could not truly enjoy. Leading to her ending her life abruptly.
