A Safety Precaution to Prevent Hacking

I thought it was uncommon, but have recently realized that just about everyone who has wi-fi Never disconnects.

They turn on the computer with it’s wi-fi on, sit with it all day, and turn it off, with the wi-fi still on.

One of the simplest protocols to adopt is to put your computer on ‘airplane mode’ before you shut it down.   Run your malware detectors while disconnected from the ‘Net.  Do all your housekeeping while disconnected from the ‘Net.

And shut off the computer while it is disconnected from the ‘Net.

Not to tip the ‘hacker hand’ too far, there are applications which allow your computer to be accessed remotely.

When your computer is turned off that doesn’t prevent someone from turning it on.  Many spy networks upload an application which will remotely turn on your computer.  If you have no Internet Access, this can’t be done.

Hence, by shutting off the wi-fi, even if your computer has been tainted with the app, it can’t be activated.

Another easy step is to connect and disconnect a number of times during use.  For example, you are writing an article.  You wisely have your original ins some word processing application just in case something goes wrong.

Your Internet connection can be disabled while you are writing, correcting, editing, then, when you are reading, turn on your wi-fi and upload the item.

This is as easy and sensible as when you are running your ‘maintenance’ programs. There is no need to be connected to the ‘Net while you are defragging or doing a clean up, or checking for malware.  Any malware protector that needs to be connected to the Internet while you run it is to be replaced immediately.

Unless you are the specific target, no hacker is going to waste much time with you when your connection goes up and down, when you ‘don’t exist’ on the ‘Net.   It is far easier to go after one of those 24 hour ‘on’ people; those who never shut off their computer but put it into ‘sleep’ mode.

In ancient days, people had easy hacks into Internet Explorer as every dog and his cat used it.  The few who used other Browsers were safe, because no one had a hack for some minor barely used Browser like Opera.

Everyone has raced to Chrome, so the hackers create their special ways in which target Chrome.  No one is wasting time on the 1% who uses Opera.

Hence using a browser ‘no one’ uses is a very simple way to avoid being hacked.

Those who try to get onto your computer when it is disconnected from the ‘Net are going to fail.  For even if they had put in some app to turn it on at 4 am, how would they get to it as they wouldn’t expect you to have disconnected your Internet connection.
