Determined for Everyone; Not Limited One to be Happy

New President of the Philippines

This is how strong is the determination of the new President of the Philippines as far as the people’s welfare and his love of country is concerned. He wants to prove it on how he serves them for six years through his courage and compassion.

June 30 marks another momentous event in the history of the Philippines. The 16th President of the county is sworn into office by the head of the higher court in a simple but memorable rites at the Malacañang Palace. It is attended by a limited number of invited guests aside from the incoming members of the cabinet of the new president.

Supreme Court Justice Bienvenido Reyes has administered the oath of office of President-elect Rodrigo Roa Duterte before the presence of his family members. Duterte’s granddaughter, Veronica Duterte carries the Bible where Duterte is placing his left hand and raising his right hand while repeating the oath of office as read by the Justice Reyes.

A month before taking his oath, Duterte is branded as unpredictable would-be president of the country. He is too frank, harsh, and down-to-earth in giving remarks or comments to issue on public interest. He is too vocal to express his dissent to Catholic clergies, drug lords, rapists, and criminals. He strongly abhors graft and corruptions in any agencies of the government.

Who is Rody Duterte anyway? He is the first president who hails from the Mindanao, the second largest island in the Philippines. Mindanao is historically considered as the land of promise. He is the first city mayor who is elected directly to the position of country’s president. He is the 16th president of the Philippines.

Duterte got the overwhelming votes of the Filipino who is tired of corruptions, of the rampant of criminality all over the country, of the uncontrollable abuses of heads of government agencies, of the inequitable distribution of properties among the common tao. The people wanted change and thus, they manifested it during the Presidential Election on May 9.

The people saw the prophetic solution in the person of Digong, whom his friends fondly calling him. Digong is the answer to effect of “ang pagbabago” (the change). He had many times declined the offer for him of the presidency. Many trials and encumbrances marred the desire of the people for him to lead them. He even made it public not to run for president after as advice by his family after he consulted them. In the last minute of the deadline of the filing of president candidacy, he unequivocally decided to run as a legal substitute of a national capital region candidate who backed out from his candidacy. The people’s prayer so to speak had been answered.

More than 15 million votes catapulted Digong to the presidency besting other presidential candidates like DILG Secretary Mar Roxas of the Liberal Party, Senator Grace Poe as Independent candidate, Vice President Jejomar Binay of United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), and Senator Miriam Santiago of People Reform Party (PRP). Duterte’s slogan, “Tapang at Malasakit” (Courage and Compassion) works effectively and contributes to the winning of Duterte.

“I serve everyone and not only one,” President Duterte so expressed it in his down-to-earth inaugural address without reservation. He is too determined to impose the change which the people are crying for. He has so many orders mentioned in his speech and he wants them to be followed.

God bless the new president of the Philippines.

    • It is too early to say that he will be a good president. This will be a big challenge for him. I must admit that I don't like him. However, people voted him and think he can save the country. My only concern is to take charge the position with decency.

      • I do respect your decision for that. You are entitled to whatever you have in mind as far as this person is concerned. Every one of us, whether we live in the Philippines or not have the personal disposition on how we regard an individual.

President Duterte personally lacks the proper decorum to respect the women as what he did to a kidnapped foreign woman who had been raped by the rebels. His comment was considered as a gesture of ill-educated person. Women, in general, did condemn such unethical remark of a government official.

His followers whom I believe have been blinded of his true-self idolize him, believing that through his courage and a very vocal public official is the answer for the change which the public has been aiming long before. Now, they put him to the highest elected position in the government as shown on May 9 national election.

Let;s wait and see how he carry the Philippine government into his hands.

    • I respect your opinion on this. I don't have high hopes for our new president. I wouldn't sugar coated his achievement in the sense of governance. He might be had the great success on this based on his track records. My concern is his behavior and unprofessional way in giving a statement. Now that he is the new president of our country, I hope his behavior and act as the real leader for his fellowmen.

      • You're absolutely correct. Matters would become worse if they are handled or managed in the strictness sense of the word. His character doesn't warrant it. He is notoriously known for his bad behavior disposition. He is too arrogant on the way I observe him when he talks. I know he has the guts, the courage, and the compassion to do what he had promised during the election campaign period.

But everything is different since he has officially taken his oath office yesterday. His good composure on the way he carried himself during that memorable occasion beguiled his real self. The people especially those who voted him were too enthusiastic to see his accomplishment especially of getting rid of criminalities and any form of graft and corruption within the period of 6 months.

Is he a superman? Does he have the magical spell to do that? Believe it or not, his fanatic followers, supporters are highly expecting that from him that he could make it. Again, let's wait and see if he could achieve it.
