@jentleheart/
Firstly, welcome to Malaysia!!
I am sure your family will have a great time shopping and visiting historical sites here.
The weather is fine now, raining but not storm.
Happy Birthday to your daddy!
My dad will be turning 75 too this July!
Both our dads were born during the war time, isn’t it?
I also feel bad for not being a…[Read more]

As i child, i think everyone has their regrets about their parents. But i believed that every parents already proud with their child no mater what his or her conditions.
I do also have regrets with my father, because i can’t spend lots of time with him. He passed away really soon – when i’m still 23 yo,
Still i’m little kid i severely saw him at…[Read more]

@jentleheart I guess all of us have that moments, though we didn’t want to get angry with our lovely children, sometimes we just did. That’s why I keep learning and practicing gentle or peaceful parenting. I still get angry with them sometimes especially when I am busy with my freelance work or overwhelmed, but I have to say I have made good…[Read more]

I suspect that if I were their age, my kids wouldn’t think I was very cool. But as their mother, I know they think I’m cool.
We are very clear that I’m the parent, not the buddy. But I also allow them a lot of autonomy, and involve them in decision making that affects them.
They know they can talk to me about anything at all, and will even bring…[Read more]

I’d like to think that I am a good mom to my kids because I have literally gave up a chance to become successful on my chosen field to become a stay at home mom. Do I have regrets? Sometimes, but that is when I think of not hasving enough to provide for their needs. Being a stay at home mom, though did not stop me from trying to earn for them.…[Read more]

My Dad turned 75 years old yesterday. I have wished of giving him something special on his great milestone but due to financial constraint, I ended giving him a simple cake. I didn’t want to spoil thd night by handinv him over the letter I wrote for him. It was short and simple but it was out of pure love.
At 75, he doezn’t really look like…[Read more]

I an very strict when it comes to behaviour like telling lies, using bad words, pushing, pulling or fighting and being disrespectful in general but I am very happy to say Alhamdulillah that all 4 of my children are very well behaved in general.
They are not angels nor do I expect them to be but no one in my house uses four letter words or is…[Read more]

I get along quite well with my parents in laws, especially my mom in law. We do not stay together, and we usually go back to our home town and visit them every two months.
I guess it’s because we respect each other, and she knows me quite well. She knows I am a stubborn person, especially when it comes to parenting or about my children, I will…[Read more]

My in-laws are sadly no longer with us. They died within months of one another, roughly four years ago now. I loved them dearly, and considered them my friends. My father-in-law was an old hippy with a mane of red hair, and a beard and personality to match. He was one of the sweetest and most loving men you could ever meet, but he loved to…[Read more]

Believe it or not, I am actually on my third and FINAL set of in-laws! LOL The first set were only good to me if I did what they wanted all the time. They have not seen my son (their grandson) in over 20 years and it was not because I did not try to encourage it. They simply had no interest in him when they found out I was not going to raise him…[Read more]

How well do you get along with your in-laws? When we weren’t living “literally” next door to my MIL, I got along. Since we recently moved and are living next door, it’s hard to get along. My mom is older than my MIL and my mom is more active than the MIL. My mom doesn’t complain about getting old, like the MIL does. I could go on and on, but…[Read more]

Recently I was in the hospital for 3 days. During that time I was posting updates via facebook and receiving all sort of messages of support from my friends. Not one single family member bothered to ask if I was okay or make a comment. Not even my half sister who not to long ago finally said “I love you” after years of us not getting al…[Read more]

I do not hate or dislike my parents as well, in fact, I really love them and think I am very blessed to have parents like them. I do not blame them, though we might have different thoughts in parenting. They didn’t learn how to be parents, and back in those days, they were busy to earn money and also trying hard to raise us. It’s not easy in those…[Read more]

My mother did spank us, but it was not very often. Spanking was the way that children were disciplined back then. My father never had to because we were daddy’s girls so we did not want to disappoint him or get him mad at us for any reason. I did not feel hate towards my parents for them spanking me nor did I feel distant from them. I was taught…[Read more]
My dad never spank me, but my mom did beat us with something, and I don’t even remember what that was, but I remember it was not a cane, not a stick, as she didn’t really mean to hurt us or make us painful. But, the problem is I don’t even remember why she beat me. So, did spanking or beating really discipline the child? I really doubt so.
Some…[Read more]

Some sorts of discipline are needed to teach the children, and spanking is old! Though I don’t totally or completely think it is so bad if the spanking is not in a physical abuse form. A light tap on the bottom usually does it well enough to bring the child back from his tantrum.
Sent them to their room or corner should be sufficient enough for…[Read more]

@slayer08/
you are right!
When I was young, my bro and I were repeatedly spanked by my mom with one or 2 canes.
She bought the canes from the night market, tie them up together to make the cane thicker.
She caned us whenever we are picky on food, didn’t do homework, didn’t listen to her, etc.
She don’t use verbal advice because her mom never…[Read more]
