This is about an interesting  Headdress made of Gold, Carnelian and Lapis Lazuli. It has a length of 19.2 cms. from Southern Iraq. From the Toyak Tombs of Ur. belonging to Circa 2600 B.C. of the Sumerians.

The Sumerians formed the first great Mesopotamian civilization. The excavations at Ur in Southern Iraq provide impressive evidence of their elaborate ceremonies the opulence and the wealth of those ancient  times and their links with other regions and kingdoms during that period. The gold deaves of this headdress must have been made with imported metal. As lot of trade used to take place between different kingdoms during those times.

Ancient texts identify one of their sources of gold as Meluhha, usually identified with the reputed Indus valley civilization of the Indus region and there are several possible sources of the carnelian, most notably Gujarat, in today’s India. While the lapis lazuli probably originated in northeast Afghanistan.

History is an interesting subject and a reader wanting to know more will certainly go through the pages of history to know more about the above mentioned headdress and its intricate craftsmanship.
