Python Patrol is a task force of patrollers and responders that are helping to fight an invasion of Burmese pythons into the Florida Keys. Python molurus bivittatus. The beautiful Burmese python is one of the largest snakes in the world, growing 3–7 metres long. The Burmese python, a native of Southeast Asia, has recently become an out-of-control menace. Burmese pythons inhabit grasslands, swamps, marshes, rocky foothills, woodlands, jungle and river valleys in Northeast India, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos. Burmese pythons have been imported from Southeast Asia mainly to satisfy the exotic pet market in Florida USA. It is an immense semi-aquatic snake that is non-venomous and fang-free. They can weigh up to two hundred pounds. Striking with open jaws, this python loops its body around its prey. Then–slowly, irresistibly–it tightens the coils. The Burmese python has very few natural enemies because of their huge size and their ability to combat attacks. This heavy-bodied snake is colorful with reddish brown blotches outlined in cream or gold overlaying a ground color of pale tan, yellowish brown colour.
