Childhood is one of the most important time of any individuals life. That is the time when they grow up observing the world doing their little experiments and small adventures which they can try only during that tender age. That is the age when they learn quite a lot about life, relationships, people, interaction, socialization, friendship etc.

But over the years a new trend has emerged with the use of more technology of children getting addicted to online games or cd’s or gaming parlours. Unfortunately elders especially parents play a great role in getting children addicted to this habit. It starts with the child getting tempted on seeing the colourful monitor of the cellphone and the tunes. They become inquisitive and would want to know and understand it. For them it is nothing but a toy they do not know anything about the pro’s and con’s of it. And parents happily or out of sheer helplessness endup giving the cellphone in the child’s hand as otherwise he will create a scene and throw a tantrum which they clearly feel is the last thing that they would want. Thus starts the journey of the child with the cellphone and its features.

Withing a few months the child becomes fixated with the games which are innumerable, it is literally the case of being spoilt with too many choices. Now they would not want to leave the game to do there other activities which they are supposed to do at their age. Then it affects their behaviour pattern and there is a marked change in the child as after some more time they graduate to playing games continuously nonstop. They will not even respond when called or spoken to. I have personally seen this happening with many children. Television, cellphone and internet are the main things which they get addicted to and can easily lay their hands on.

These games are loaded with software which are highly addictive and make them play the game again and again they cannot stop at one game they want a endless game as they have lost the control to say stop or listen to elders due to games addictive software. In the unfortunate severe cases they have to be taken to psychologists and behavioural therapists for getting rid of their problem and it is a big rush at such places as there are many more such cases being treated for these kindly of  modern day ailments.

These are the few guidelines which will help children and parents to see that they do not have to go through trouble.

1) Sensitize the child about the instrument and teach him or her to handle them safely and responsibly.

2) Parents should put their foot down sternly but politely so that the message goes to the child that his tantrums are not going to work.

3) The child should be allowed to utilize the game as per the agreed time daily so that discipline sets in.

4) Children should be taken for more outdoor activities or sports should be included in their curricula. Which is good for their all round development.

5) A well rounded personality with responsibility has to be created of the child so that even if he finds the phone he will not overuse the electronic instruments.

6) They should also be taught how to use these instruments and what are the healthy options in them and guided on the right path as part of parenting.

7) Children are children they are vulnerable so do not leave them alone for long periods.

Hope the information was useful if you feel there are some more points to be added do add it in the comments section.

Technology has taken over our lives and we dont realize it. Its not just the kids who are engrossed in this things. Parents have also been caught up in the whole thing. ffirt of all when parents are home what do they do? They sit down from work and get their phones, they start to chat and put up statuses on the various media sites not givi g their children their time. so the child starts to wonder why they are so engrossed on their phones and thats where it starts. So if this behavior is to be curbed then kids wont gall prey to the technology world. Whatever happened to the days when kids were given toys to keep them busy. Nowadays its all about play stations and computer games. Kids are hardly taken outside to play football, or go swimming, or just play this oyr door games or indoor games like snakes and ladders, monopoly and chess games that woukd juggle their minds and give them patience. I think parents have failed to some point but they can still recover their kids and get them off this habits. Keep your phones away when you are home, avoid giving your kids your phones when yhey throw tantrums be authoritative and firm and am sure when the child us explained to about certain things they will understand and life wont be so hard for the parents.

I could not agree more with you parents are equally responsible. I was on a journey in a train and from the moment the train started each and every passenger except me was either glued to his cellphone or a laptop till the time he reached his destination calls came not only from there families and friends but also from their offices regarding some work or the other even though it was night time. And these passengers cheerfully received their phones and were enthusiastic to talk to whosoever was on on the other side. Some others also kept speaking continuously even during night time when it is supposed to be sleep time and disturbed others sleep. A few others were seen looking at their phones and smiling and some other people were speaking and crying. I was observing all these scenes with amusement. It was a thorough entertainment for me after reading a few articles from my paper. That is how life has become for them. They are controlled by machines.
