Maurya Empire is biggest empire formed in India.I was founded by the great Chandragupt and his Guru Chanakya the great .It is said that he was son of any cattle holder who sold it to Chanakya. Some told that he was son of a kshatriya family. Buddhist literature shows that he was about the family of Shish nag dynasty.May he so but when he met with Chanakya he made history and made the great empire.He.also chased Greeks from Northern west part of India.

Yes, the Mauryan empire was a big one and a very strong one too. Chandragupta Maurya, aided by Chanakya(or Kautilya) proved tough for Greeks, but also established political relationships with them. |

The Mauryan empire existed from 322 BCE to 125 BCE for about a period of 137 years. It was an Iron age historical power which replaced the earlier Magadha kingdom. Chandradgupta looked for spots of weakness in the Magadha kingdom at the boundaries and also built the peoples goodwill, built an army with their help as they too were fed up the the tyrannical rulers of Magadha called the Nandas who ruled during those times. Chanakya also called Kautilya or Vishnu Gupta played a major role by assisting Chandragupta in forming the kingdom. Finally Chandragupta ended up killing the ruler of the Magadha kingdom.
It became the largest empire of the world during its time. It was centered in Pataliputra which is the present day Patna in Bihar State of India. The main religions which existed during in the period were Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. Magasthenese wrote about the Mauryan empire, Pataliputra its people and the society which existed at the time in the empire. Indian History is incomplete without the mention of Mauryan empire. |
