When i was in my early twenties, i used to take public bus to work and back home.
I do not take a cab because it is costly although the transportation time is shorter.
The disadvantages of public transport is the molesters and pick pockets.
Hence, i always had to carry a big bag to shield myself from these animals
In addition, i have to squeeze into the bus with other passengers. Nobody is kind when everyone is rushing home. Nobody queue up either. Cab is more comfy but you have to negotiate the price before you take the ride.
Nowadays, cab drivers even turn off the cab meters though they are not allowed to do so.
Which do you prefer?

@peachpurple I never use public transport as public transport is not so good in India. I have had my own vehicle since I was in school. I had a two-wheeler during high school and college. I used my own scooter to commute during early years of my career. And now since 8-9 years, I commute by my own car. In case of emergency, I would prefer a cab.
http://172.104.9.193/members/swalia/ ah you sure are lucky, I had been travelling by public bus since secondary school days until I started to work. I only started to travel by car when I had a boyfriend. It was tough life taking public buses.
I use both including my car. I have been traveling by train during last few days as I have given my car to service station. I took this opportunity as my area is totally blocked for road travel due to world famous Kanwar Yatra in my area these days.
If I have my own car, I prefer to use it because as you mentioned, there are pickpockets and molesters when taking public transportation. But since I dont have one, I have no choice but to take public bus.
@Anjee You have good and bad reasons for whatever you prefer for commuting to your work or shopping. If you travel by bus you do not have to worry about break downs and other problems that a private vehicle is associated with.
I am more on the practical side. I still ride on the public transportation such as jeepney in my country. I only ride a cab if I have so many things to carry and need to feel comfortable going to the final destination. There are some instances that I walk from home to town proper and vis-a-vis. The reason, it is a part of having an exercise. Besides, I am not always on the rush.
@peachpurple, in our country a cab is equivalent to taxi here. I used to ride on a jeepney. My father is the one using the car as a military official. We only rode in when he is home from work. When I was in college I was not allowed to ride, but when I was graduating, my father bought me Nissan Sentra and was able to drive until now.
In my area, it costs a minimum of $10 one way to catch a taxi or cab. It costs $1 one way to ride the public bus. If a person has more than one place to go during the day they can pay $2.50 for a day pass for the public bus or they can purchase a monthly pass for $35. When I was working at IHOP (restaurant) I would catch the public bus during the weekdays and on Saturday. The bus does not run on Sundays so I would have to catch a taxi/cab to work and catch a ride home with a co-worker when I got off work. Since my mom is disabled, she has a worker that will take us to places like the grocery store or any doctor visits she may have. The only thing I hate about public transportation is that I have to walk a mile in order to catch the bus. Since it is summer time here and we have been having really high heat index (sometimes as high as 45C (113F), I find it really hard to walk in this heat. I nearly passed out from heat exhaustion once.
I think using public transport for pieces of work is not so good due to reaching late anywhere, cut purse danger…..but I think personal vehicle is better if not carefully public transport is better because buying any vehicle rests on money. I use my personal scooter for my pieces of wok out of home I do not like travelling in public transport because of reaching late.
I own a car so normally i would just my car but when i was in college i used public transportation (i live a country with good public security). At the moment i only use public transportation when going to a city. I also sometimes use a cab, when i’ve been drinking at a diner or when going out and it’s like 5 AM. so it depend on the situation. |
