Kaylar – After our stimulating discussion about Fidel Castro, this link was suggested as newsworthy or worth reading. Sharing this link with you in this group because I’m not sure we can put links in our comments at blog posts.  (??)  I thought you might find it interesting, although you are probably already aware of the report.  Canada’s leader, President Trudeau’s remarks were not well received by the general public. They’re slamming him! Politicians must be ever so careful about expressing themselves. They can’t just talk openly like you and me. Things they say can be easily flipped!  What do you think of his eulogy?

yes. you are right People holding powerful and responsible position should have more control over their language and on their speech than an ordinary man  Their statements or remarks on any subject will be taken as granted which may ultimately be proved harmful and may result in disharmony . They should think twice before talking or making a statement . The Canda’s President Mr. Trudeau when praised the Cuba’s President Mr. Fidal Castro he should have checked the pulse of the people of Canada. He can not ventilate his personal opinions as a President but he should speak what the people of his country are expecting him.

Agree.  Those in influential positions must always keep in mind that their statements are recorded for the future.  However, that’s not to say they don’t have freedom of speech.  They can say whatever they like.  But it will go in the historical records.  If they don’t mind that, then Hey!  Get on a mountain top and scream!

He called Castro “larger than life” and “a legendary revolutionary and orator”.

Castro was an honorary pall bearer at the 2000 funeral of Mr Trudeau’s father, former prime minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau.

In 1976, the senior Trudeau became the first NATO leader to visit Cuba since its revolution, at one point exhorting, “Viva Castro!”

“I know my father was very proud to call him a friend and I had the opportunity to meet Fidel when my father passed away,” the Canadian Prime Minister said.

Mr Trudeau did not see Castro during his official visit to Cuba in November.

Everyone has a different of opinion about different things and people. Some people saw Castro as a hero (people of Angola) while his own people saw him as an evil man that killed for any reason. He kept his people in a straight line and didn’t allow for anyone to get out of that line. Was it cruel of him? Who am I to say? Sure he did some bad things but he also did some great things. He helped the people of Palestine. People are quick to take up for Israel but never for the people of Palestine. Israel should be punished for war crimes and the United States needs to stop sending them money and guns. Another thing, if Castro was so bad, then why did the US have a base in Cuba where it housed terrorists that’s still open today? A place where so-called terrorists have been tortured? These men have not been charged with any crime but are being held against their will? America is no better than Castro.

EvilElf  – You get no argument from me.   I never said America was an “angel”.  But I did say Castro was not a “hero”.  However, I think the people who lived under his government would know much better than me.  So I defer to them to set the public historical record straight.  That’s if they are not too afraid to speak the truth.  If he was truly good to them, I should think they would want to defend him years and years and years after his death.  Why wouldn’t they want to tell the truth about a man who was so good and kind to them?  ALL of them.  Not just a chosen few seemingly carefully selected for public broadcasting.  If he was good, he was good.  His reputation and record of deeds is all that he has.  A good man should always be given the honor he is due.  Although we know that doesn’t always happen in real life.

One thing we should remember that if they are so sensitive to the records and got a fear of being caught based on their earlier comments recorded they will not speak anything like that. They are all above such fears and complexes. That is why they become politicians Only tact and diplomatic. If they speak and blabber something in the Parliament it will be recorded. But they tactfully twist their comments adding something which will be objectionable so that the entire statement will be removed from the records and the speaker announces it as removed from the records as objectionable remarks. So whatever he wants to speak he will speak. But by adding something further his previous remarks becomes an objectionable one and will be removed from the records. So this is the tact and sheer planning they adopt.

Of course, everyone  in almost all countries is  adopting the same procedure.
