Now a days it is popular to have the weirdest pets at home. There are iguanas, chameleons, sugar gliders, rats and some for some reason even get tigers as pets. There are so many strange things you can bring to your home. Some you need permission and others, well are just there. Some find abandonded animals in the woods and decide to take them home like foxes or deers. Some people have a weird taste in animals and i will never get it. What is wrong with the normal cat, dog and hamster?
It isn’t uncommon for people to have these kinds of pets but it is still weird. One i don’t understand are domestic rats. They are rats that were breed without diseases and are supposed to be calm and loving.
I don’t know how people can have rats as pets though. They are still rats and i don’t find them appealing to have as a pet. Even if they are free of diseases and everything. They can be cute and look like guinea pigs or others but still they are rats and i can’t find the reason one would want to have one.
I see people putting all over youtube videos of their pet rats and why they have them, showing off tricks they can do and show how loving they can be when they create a bond. Yet i can never see myself having one as a pet. It is a rat to me like any other rat, a rodent, i find the tail disgusting and its teeth also.
How con someone have an animal like this as a pet, how are they sure they have no diseases or that they wont turn on them and attack them. Some rats have very strong teeth and can eat through skin.
Would you keep a rat as a pet?

No doubt even I have seen people on television or Youtube having rats or mice as pets. But in my opinion having them in ones home is not advisable as they are carriers of a host of diseases. In India people especially shopkeepers and farmers have cats as rats eat the stocks of food which they have kept for sale resulting in losses to them. There is also a community in India who I know eat rats as their staple food. Since many centuries and they are tribals.
There is also a temple in Rajasthan, India where rats are worshiped and devotees take blessings of these rats there are hundreds of rats which are there in the temple and the devotees are not afraid of them. They feed them milk and also eat the offerings kept for the rats as Prasad as they consider it a holy thing as rat is the vehicle of God Ganesha the elephant headed God. Who is famous all over the world and is worshiped by devotees worldwide. I have seen this on television small children also are not afraid of these rats.
I don't like it, even the sight of rats, i just can not look at it for a long time. They are carriers of leptospirosis; in their urines and poo. If you have an open wound and got in contact with it, there is the danger of having leptospirosis.
What's happening to people nowadays? They can have guinea pigs, a cat or adopt any pet, but not rats! So weird!
When my son was eight years old, once he brought home a rat, he said his friend gave it to him, as wanted to throw out from his home, and of course my son felt sad and took a rat to our home. But his enthusiasm run away after month or two and he found other friend, one girl, who took over the chain for taking care about this poor rat. Personally I do not like rats, even domestic rats.
