Not everyone these days is financially comfortable. One cannot survive on the man’s earnings alone. It has therefore become imperative that both husband and wife contribute to the kitty so that they can live comfortably well. But sometimes situations are such that the wife needs to stay at home to take care of household chores and kids.
But there is hope. There is ample opportunity for working at home moms to do their bit. They need not just rely on data entry work or surveys that are dished out by some boring sites. There is more for working at home moms.
First and foremost they should take time off and work out a schedule that takes care of their daily routines, which are compulsory such as household chores and childcare. Only after doing justice to these chores, that they can happily think on earning at home.
These moms could think of either taking up online jobs that are commensurate with their qualifications or start their own business depending on what they are good at. If it is an online job, they should be confident and have a say in what they expect to earn per hour. The demands could include bonus, retirement benefits and other perks.
Starting one’s own business has now become easy what with so many support groups that are ready and waiting to give a helping hand. Working with a set up that is well established and which has all the necessary infrastructure could go a long way in giving them the confidence they need to take the first step and market their products. There are groups that particularly encourage these women women to start their own home based business.
They, however, need to be adept at the computer and even have their own Blog and/or website. These tools play a big role in being a part of the world where their income lies.
Another option for these moms would be to be online agents boosting and booking orders for third party products. The advantage here is that there is no investment involved but one needs to work hard on creating a good network of consumers and customers. Some of these companies spend their own money for advertisements and place their Ads on the Blogs and/or websites that they would have created.
Once the working home moms decide on the course of action it is imperative that they know that there could be scams doing the rounds. It is in their interest therefore that a thorough study is made on those with whom they would have tie-ups. Needless to mention that they should install a strong anti virus software and an efficient broadband connection so that work is not disrupted and precious time wasted.
When money starts coming in they would have forgotten the fatigue that they would have experienced as they would be doubling up both as housewives and working at home moms!

Yes, a very inconvenient and low payments usually force both parents to work but in many cases a wife is forced to stay at home and take care of children. Some families have elderly who will take a role of the babysitter but many don't have a willing grandmother or they don't have anybody to help.
In this case I admit a wife has to stay at home or pay a babysitter, which by the way is not the best solution. I don't really trust people that much and I think that a family member has to be in charge of the offspring no matter if it is a mother or father.
One more thing, what I have learned is that women are terribly underpaid no matter if they work at home or in the working place.
It's like they are paid peanuts in comparison to tehir male peers. This is wrong and it is an expression of the total lack of respect towards the woman.
I believe we should be equally paid and equally respected as well.
If you are intent on doing something, sky is the limit. Gone are the days when the moms had limited options available to them. Now with internet, there is a whole new world of opportunities for the work at home moms. Though the pays are low but still you can stay at home, look after your kids and earn a decent amount. Another good option that you suggested is of starting your business. You can start a small business from home- tiffin services, tuitions/coaching centre, home made chocolates and so on. There are endless options.
There are always opportunities for us to work from home, and with the invention of Internet, there are even more opportunities. My mom has always been working from home when we were young, as she was a tailor.
When I decided to stay at home and take care of my child, I have been thinking of several options that I can at least work from home and help to lighten my husband's burden. Glad that I am a programmer, so I can work as a freelance programmer. Besides this, there are also some online sites that we can make money from, though these sites might not pay much, I can perhaps earn a book in a month, which I think is quite good too.
Besides these, I also thought of giving private tuition, babysitting other kids or setting up online business. There are actually many ways to do, if we really explore and learn. I agree with @swalia, only the sky is the limit. We can always find the way if we want to. :)

I do appreciate mothers who take time out to help their husbands to earn, to supplement the meager income of their husbands to sustain their family, their day-to-day needs, the education of their children.
I remember a lesson taught by our Sunday school teacher about work. Work is the substance that makes everyone live or else he is not worthy to serve the Lord if he is not going to work. Everyone is commanded to work to help others.for his family and for himself. I mark that lesson.
Yes, most housewives or stay at home moms are trying to meet ends with working online or offline.
For example , one of my neighbor works offline because she is computer illiterate.
So, she got a stay at home job by working at home, putting in the string into plastic bags, tie into knot and packed them into 100 pieces per bundle.
In a day, she could packed up to 50 bundles.
One bundle cost $1 x 50 = $50.
So, in a month, she is making big bucks.
I am not keen in that kind of job.
It is a strenuous job.
If you lost count, you have to count it all over again.
If you lost a few bags, they will deduct your pay.
So, I would rather work online. Write posts and comments, earn USD$$$ !
Although I may not earn as much as she did, at least I am enjoying this job.
