It is something I say all the time, repeat all the time, and can give long lists of errors made by people who ‘take back’ someone they broke up with, or who broke up with them.
In 99.999999% of the cases it doesn’t work out. In fact, it is often worse the ‘second time around.’
There is a reason why an Ex is an Ex. There was something ‘wrong’ between you. Now, time has passed and it is supposed to have been ‘corrected’. But in some cases, it can never be, because the fault that drove you away the first time is often still there; maybe translated into another fault, maybe a symptom of a personality defect, but as I said, in almost every single case, an Ex should remain an Ex.
People don’t really change. Whatever pushed you apart the first time is still there. And will push you apart again. Unless you kill each other.
Unless when you married were in a complete daze or had some sort of mental problem, what you saw then, which chased you then, is still there.
The man who tries to ‘overcome’ his violence will fail. The woman who tries to stop being obsessive, will fail. Even extensive psychiatric care will only create a ‘diversion’. And the ‘diversion’ will drive you away.
The man who doesn’t hit you but goes down stairs and pounds a punching bag. The woman who sits in agony because the salt shaker is out of place, so creeps down in the middle of the night to put it in its place will drive the partner away just as it did the first time.
The split might be childish, but the reasons behind it, the real reasons are not.

I agree. Especially, if you separated from your husband because he beats the wife, physically and verbally.
There are a lot of cases here in the Philippines, where the woman separated from her husband because of that. Then, the husband would ask for another chance and the woman would go back, because of their children who wants them back together.
Sad to say, that the man beats her again physically and verbally.
Now, she has to file a complaint and have her husband imprisoned. That should be what is to be done for a husband who beats his wife.
When a woman marries an abusive man, he often so destroys her sense of herself, she second guess her actions. Because her confidence is shaken, she makes the mistake of letting him back into her life for dire consequences.
