Weather Alert for the Azores

It has been issued for this week a yellow alert for the Azores. Aound this time of the year we tend to catch quite alot of tropical storms from other areas. These tropical storms are leftovers of hurricans that come from other countries. We don’t normally have any hurricanes because we are located in a anti-cyclone area, which means when a storm tends to come to us, the climate breaks it does and turns it into a tropical storm.

These storms are a bit harsh but we who live here are more than used to the damage that it may cause. Hopefully this year there won’t be as much damage as last year.

Some of these storms come a bit stronger than we think and they bring strong winds and heavy rains. This ends up causing floods and trees or other object to fall and fly around. The towns closer to the water  are the ones in more danger when the waves are bigger than usual. There are some areas close to water that aren’t that affected because of the walls and rocks that break them down before they reach land.

These storms start around March and can go up until June depending on how the weather decides to act up. It is dangerous sometimes to even be out on the highways because they tend to fog up, especially when our weather gets extremely humid and this tends to cuase alot of accidents. Most accidents here on the island are mostly because of the lack of view with the fog. Unfortunatly for some people this is the only way that they can use to go home and to work.

Let’s hope this year isn’t the bad years where we get alot of properties destroyed. We need to stay positive and hope it is are typical tropical storms passing by and they they won’t cause us any damage or harm.
