Vital Safety Tips for Women

Although ‘common sense’ tips, as you know, common sense is not common.  Very often one isn’t paying attention, so slips.  These tips are to keep you focused on where you are.

  1. If you are alone, get off your Cell Phone.

You might think being on the phone is safe because the person on the other line can call 911.  That may not happen fast enough. It is better to be aware of your surroundings.   Most people get hurt, robbed, abducted, when they are not paying attention.  Cell Phones are the Capital of non-attention.    Sure, if you are using it as a prop, with no one on the other side, so are focused on what is going on around you, okay.  But if you’re deep in conversation with someone… bad idea.

2.  When leaving somewhere late at night, get someone  to walk you to your car.

Women alone are the target, if you are with someone, you add to your safety.  If you can get a big man you know or a security guard, fine.   And draw attention to yourself.  Make everyone know this man is walking with you, so just in case anything happens, and the man you trusted can’t be trusted, people will be able to identify your attacker.

3. Avoid the Stairs

If you are alone, those staircases inside of a building are very dangerous.   They are lonely, they are rarely traveled, and often virtually soundproof.   Take the elevator, and don’t get on if there is someone in there that looks dangerous.

4.  Cross the Street

If there is a group at a corner, cross the street to avoid them.   Don’t put yourself in danger.  Be conscious.  You can cross in the middle of the street, then, pass and cross back, but don’t trust groups on corners.

5.  Walk with Purpose

Walk as if you have to get somewhere don’t wander or dawdle of look into windows.  March quickly concentrating on your environment, being conscious.

6.  Well Lit Areas

If you are out at night, stay in well lit areas, park in well lit areas.  Avoid dark parking lots, or lonely areas.

These are just a few tips but if you keep them in mind your should protect yourself.
