For many years no one even imagined ‘Emotional Intelligence’. There was simply ‘Intelligence’ based on Book learning. People were judged by their I.Q.s (Intelligence quotient).
Hence the person with the 150 I.Q was near genius, the person with 100 I.Q. was average.
Yet, in life, daily life, people with high I.Q.s don’t seem to do that well. All proofs were that people with average IQs outperform those with the highest IQs over 70% of the time.
This did not make sense and caused retesting and re-retesting, yet 70% of the time, (most of the time) people whose intellect would be shrugged as ‘average’ outperformed those who were bowed to as ‘genius.’
It finally dawned on all the scientists that there was something else besides the so called ‘Intelligence’ which was in play, and it took them quite long to realise it was what is called today “emotional intelligence.”
Emotional Intelligence (EQ) has a great impact on your success. Not only in business but life.
Emotional intelligence is difficult to measure. It is how we manage behaviour, how we handle social complex events, and make decisions which get positive results.
People who have high E.Q.s can understand their emotions, and know how to direct them. They comprehend the feelings of other people and know how not to offend them unless offending them is a way to gain results.
People with high E.Q.s stay positive and don’t allow what they can’t control to control them.
They know how to explain themselves precisely. They don’t say they are ‘fed up’, they can pin point what is bothering them and articulate it.
People with high E.Q.s don’t let others set their agendas. They don’t allow others to control their moods, tell them what they think or how to think. They make everything fun, no matter how horrible or boring.
To make it simple, they view each day with a kind of joy and belief they can make it better.
