To each their own

We all are in grooves that we have carved for ourselves and think we are all knowing. It is only when we have exposure to the outside world then we realize there is so much that we do not know.

I was talking to a friend this morning how expensive fish has become. I was particularly talking about the price of lobsters. The fisherman approached our gate this morning  and proudly displayed a single lobster. I  had not eaten  lobsters in years and when we did it was by the dozens  that we bought them. I showed interest but was shocked when he told me that it cost Rs. 170/-  I did not buy. When I mentioned this to my friend she was amused and said that it was indeed cheap as she had just eaten at a 5 star hotel the other day and had paid Rs. 3000/- for a plate of lobsters. If only I could put in words what my reaction to that revelation was, I would!!!!

How different the world is from the world I knew. Having pulled myself from the world that we call the glamour world did this to me. We have shifted to a semi rural town where living simply is the order of the day. We like it that way as we have done it all and seen it all but that was years ago  That the price in cities could have sky rocketed was news to me.

I told my friend that the next time she visits me I shall buy half a dozen lobsters and make a Russian Salad for her which would taste better, cost me less and would have more quantity than what she got for those Rs. 3000/-

What struck me the most was that while I just could not digest the comparison my friend was most comfortable.  She was used to paying such amounts. That was her way of life.

    • I love Lobster. To be honest, I only experienced eating grab, never experienced to taste Lobster. Is the taste the same? Lobster is very expensive in my place so we always choose crab as a replacement. Crab is not even cheaper too but sometimes we can afford.

    • I like lobsters. But it costs an arm and a leg in my city. I think it is cheaper if I am living in the seaside in my country. I usually eat crabs as mentioned by @grecy095.

    • When we were living in the city they were easily available and the price was within reach. We now live in a semi rural town and I did not know that the price had shot up so much
