When we were children, all around us got the opportunity to gift us with small things that brought immense joy to the receiver and the giver. We were always in want. These days most have enough and so giving does not produce the kind of joy that existed in those good old days.
I like to give and have found a group of poor kids who I know will appreciate whatever I give them.
I throw Christmas parties each year and I have been doing this since many years. The number of kids differs from year to year. This year I had 90 of them. .
The planning begins almost 6 months before the event. Planning itself is a source of great joy to me.
Each party is planned at a different venue. I have had parties at my place, at a beach resort and also at a set up where the kids got to see a whole lot of things and eat there too besides spending time in their well laid out park..
Planning begins with choosing a venue, the date. searching the net to buy gifts and Xmas decorations – shopping both offline and online. Each time I choose a different theme . There is joy to see those kids helping me with blowing the balloons to be put up. The nuns bring a few of them with them to help me out.
Here I shall write about one party I had last Christmas at our residence.
The theme was polka dots. I bought polka dotted balloons, serviettes, wrapping paper, goodie bags, caps and ribbons for kids. Some adults who I had invited also came with polka dotted outfits.
There was plenty of singing and dancing.
There were several games too. I had bought ‘smiley’ badges and each got one. Those with the same smilies had to group together and dance to the tune picked for them.
We sang hymns, carols and party medleys accompanied by the guitarist who did a great job.
A little boy in the neighbourhood became Santa and he distributed the gifts to kids and goodie bags to everyone.
Everyone enjoyed the food and the party ended with a note of thanks by the kids which was indeed touching.
Try to give and you will see the joy it brings.
