THE HERBAL GEM OF INDIA-RUDRAKSHA

Rudraksha is a seed from a particular tree grown mostly in the Himalayan region. They are richly available in Nepal, Burma, and Thailand. Though they are available in some part of the Western Ghats their quality is not as good as those available from the Himalayan region. The Altitude, temperature, wind, and Soil will contribute a lot to the unique vibrations of the seed.

Many saints and Sadhus use Rudraksha /s during their meditation. Some Sadhus recommend their usage to come out of some problems in life. They possess energy and produce it when coming into contact with  a silk cloth.

Rudrakshas are tied in a long chain and s called Mala. Rudraksha Mala is generally wore by all people. This is used mostly by all devotees worshipping Lord Shiva.

It is recommended that Adult should wear a mala consisting of 108 beads and he should not wear a mala with less than 84 beads at any time. Still people from business point of view negative such advices and say a big ‘No’ to it.

WHAT IS BINDU IN RUDRAKSHA MALA?

It is very peculiar to observe that there will be one more bead in addition to 108 beads in a Mala. This bead is called BINDU. This is a point of starting. In Hinduism most of the Mantras are chanted 108 times and the started from the bead immediately next to the BINDU rotating the bead in a closewise direction towards the body. The entire Mala of 108 beads will be covered by a silk cloth to energise each bead by the chanted Mantra.

Sometimes, people wear a single bead in their chain as per their requirement and need based on their Horoscope and as per the suggestion of their individual Masters.

Some people wear Rudrakshas in 21 number as bracelet also.

HOW TO HOLD RUDRAKSHA MALA WHILE CHANTING?

Most of the Prayers / Mantras are chanted using Rudraksha Mala.

The Mala is held between the middle finger and index finger of the right hand. The Mala rest on the middle finger. Now after a chant is completed the bead is pushed towards the body with the Thumb.

This being a general practice, there are many varieties of chanting and holding the Mala for specific mantra and for specific God and also for specific purpose that all require the advice and suggestion of a MASTER.

HOW ARE THE RUDRAKSHA BEADS TIED.

The beads of  Rudraksha are tied in a thread. But it may not be advisable to tie them in a cotton thread as it may break away easily sometimes coming into contact with other objects. Most of them are tied in a Copper / Gold wire /string and there will be a small gap is kept between each bead to avoid their damage due to friction.

Varieties  of Rudrakshas and  FACE/ MUKH  OF A RUDRAKH

In  a single tree of Rudrakhs there are many varieties that can be found.  The varieties of a Rudraksha is differtiated by its faces.  The face of a rudraksha means the deep line appearing on a Rudraksha.  Rudraksha seed will have 1-21 lines on it. Each line on a Rudraksha is a much/face. So in all there are 21 types of Rudrakshas.

A rudraksha having 1 line is called Ek Mukhi

A rudraksha having 2 lines on it is called Dwi Mukhi

A rudraksha having 3 lines on it is called Thri Mukhi and  .

The importance of each mukhi can be found only in religious books or from experts or from religious heads. Each face on a Rudraksha associated to  a particular Diety / God  as per the religious books.

One should know that the Ek Mukhi Rudraksha is very rare and almost can not be found whereas the Rudraksha having 21 faces is very expensive costly more than 10 lakhs.  The most easily available Rudraksha will have 5 lines/faces on it and is called PANCHA MUKHI RUDRAKSHA

The benefits of wearing Rudraksha

Rudrakshas  are worshipped as a source of good luck, good health, and prosperity, medicinal value, success, and financial gains. A person who possesses Rudraksha will have good health and wealth. He will be respected by all and will be capable of attracting everybody and anybody.

Rudraksha creates and develops positive energy for the Body, mind, and Soul;

They are effective in controlling stress

They form powerful protection circles from the negative energy

They sharpen the mind and develop the power of Intuition.

They increase the power and radiance of Soul and equip it with all the necessary power in the material world

They bring perfect balance between the energy of the Body and the positive forces of Nature.

The science has proved that they have got many health benefits

Rudraksha seeds are used in Ayurveda to treat many diseases

One Chaturmukh Rudraksha and One Shanmukha Rudraksha tied  together with copper wire and wearing with a red thread as a Talisman will improve the attentiveness, memory power, interest in studies etc.,

For the bite of a scorpion or other such things Panchamukhi Rudraksha can be rubbed on a grind stone with the juice of Lemon and the paste is applied on the affected spot. The pain will subside.

And Bilwa leaf

In one sentence it can be said that it is a herbal diamond. It is highly energized on Maha Shivaratri day and tied on the right-hand wrist at Jeeva Nadi.

Hence, it is rightly called the Herbal Diamond of India.

    • Thanks for this interesting post about Rudraksha seeds. I have my Santosha beads and don't know if the black ones on it are Rudraksha seeds. I wish they were. I will ask my friend who made the 108 Santosha beads if she included rudraksha seeds in it.
