Superstitious India – May Be The Whole World

Superstitious is an activity which is followed from many years in the World. There are many Superstitious activities that are followed in world over and Indian’s also follow many Superstitions

India is a land of Superstition. People associate one or the other thing about different activities they follow. They hang a Lemon and 7 chilies to get good luck in business which they change once a week.

If a black cat crosses them while on the way to a function or an important ceremony or business talk they usually return back or wait for some other to pass first so that they were re leaved from Bad Luck.

If the Milk while boiling spilled that would be regarded as a bad luck and would believe something bad will happen in their family and friends.

Don’t eat Non-Veg on Tuesdays, Thursday’s or even Saturday’s.

No cleaning in house after Sunset.

Not to touch or even put the Broom in standing position

Never cut their nails after Sun sets.

So ,   These are the most common Superstitious activities in India or I know about.

I think these have some logics that’s why our ancestors have make these and they also follow these and these days also many are following them. Split Milk situation is bad and will cause some money related problem and also waste the time to clean that up. For cutting of nails after sun set could be due to in early times there were no Artificial lights available so only source of energy for lighting is Sun and only sun. This is also related with cleaning of house after sun set as it would be difficult to clean the house if it’s already sun set and you don’t have much light to work with.

The most important thing  and base of these is people are very Religious in old times and that’s the reason they don’t like to have Non-Veg food on Tuesdays, Thursdays or even Saturdays as these three days are closely associated with Gods, like Tuesday is Realated with Hanuman Jee and Thursday with peer Fakeers and of course Saturday with Shani dev,

Actually every community do follow some or the other Superstitions

    • Us Too here in the Philippines have a lot of superstitious beliefs. But because my father is a lawyer, they brought us up not believing any of them at all. So far, nothing bad happened to all of us by not following them.

      Actually, our grandparents would tell us about the superstitious beliefs but my father would tell us they are of no scientific basis, so we should not believe them.

      Actually from all those that you have enumerated the we , Filipinos have the same superstitious beliefs ;

      1. Never watch their face in a broken mirror. ( The one I was using in putting make-up everyday before reporting to work for the last 2 years was broken. Nothng bad happened to me during those years, but lately I replaced it with a new one already)

      2. When a black cat crosses the road while you are driving, it means bad luck. ( Hubby would still drive after the cat has crossed. He doesn't believe it anyway, so nothing bad happens to him)

      • yeah you are right, these things are not logical much but still there are many who follow these and wants us to follow as well. I try to avoid most of them but to be honest i was kinda forced to follow some like no non-veg or even eggs on Tuesday and Thursday. But i try to avoid these superstitions

    • You are right my friend that superstition mentioned here might also be the beliefs of people around the world. These are also beliefs in Philippines and people tend to feel afraid seeing their face in a broken mirror and fear of having cup fallen and broken on the floor. It means something bad to mourn if a glass drops to the floor. Of course,m that drops because of carelessness and the person lacks focus.
