Summer is here! And for some people, summer is a big deal – believe me. Growing up in a tropical country, I never really appreciate summer not until I lived in the cold, windy, rainy country of Ireland, LOL!
Over the past years, I gradually learned to appreciate the littlest things such as an entire day of having the glorious sun around. Especially now that I have a kid, a nice, warm weather meant that my son can enjoy a few hours outdoors running to play instead of sulking indoors inside the apartment. Unlike me who finds happiness in the four corners of the home (on most days), my son seems to take after his Dad for wanting and itching to go out, hehe.
In our home country, we don’t use sunscreen if we are just to go outside to play – not unless we are going to the beach. However, after a couple of days spending an hour outdoors, I noticed my son developing a few tan lines (poor kid). So I had to find a kid-friendly sunscreen before my son gets any darker!
Even with my son’s skincare, I try to be conscious of the ingredients used to make the product. I realized that toxic materials are everywhere and can be hidden on even the supposedly mildest products (baby products) in the market these days. So I decided to be a little bit diligent when I was deciding which sunscreen to buy my son. After a few Google searches, I stumbled on this site and was so happy to have a good reference for it.
Buying a good (decent priced) sunscreen with a fantastic toxic rating (rating of 1 or 2) is difficult – that’s what I discovered. Even if I try to use Amazon to buy it, I realized that either the product is not available in Amazon or can’t be delivered in Ireland. It was a pain! So after a few more attempts, I decided to settle for brands with a mediocre toxic rating instead. Luckily, Garnier Ambre Solaire for Kids passed the rating of 3 so I decided to buy it.
The packaging is nice and it is a spray sunscreen. I think the spray is meant for easier application (maybe if using it for the body) but parents should be wary not to spray it directly on the baby’s skin for possibilities it might get sprayed in the eyes or inhale by the child accidentally. My son usually goes out with a long-sleeved hoodie so he only needed to have his hands and face covered with sunscreen.
Garnier Ambre Solaire for Kids is really easy to apply and non-greasy. I only need to spray 2-3 sprays in my palm and apply gently on my son’s face and hands as thin as I can. It is quick to absorb and literally just takes 2-3 minutes to dry. It is a nice feature but in a way, you need to distribute the sunscreen in a jiffy, otherwise, you can see a white “mask” on your little one’s skin when it dries out!
Overall, it is a nice product and since using it, my son’s skin went back to its “normal” color. My son did not experience getting allergies from using it so we don’t mind buying it again when we run out.

@cessy08 I like the idea of a spray which is easy for application. With the kids having a sensitive skin they surely need a special sunscreen made for them.
Could it harm if you sprayed directly rather than spraying it on your hand and then applying on your child's face?
I think I'd rather spray on my hands first especially if I want to put sunscreen on his face and neck - he might inhale it! Maybe if I were to apply it against his back, then I will spray it directly for easier application :)
