To the struggling new mom !

Like every freshly postpartum women I find myself struggling with the new demanding tasks of being a mother. Trying to find a natural balance of it all, when to shower, eat, read a book or even just take a nice deepening breath. There are a lot of more experienced mothers with many children who try to lend a helping hand and for some reason you find yourself wondering why the tips and advice aren’t working for your particular situation or baby.

Believe me you’re not alone !! I’ve lost sight of any of my belongings in my home or any little spec of the spunky energized person I was eleven months ago. It has now all been refilled with changing tables, spit up rags and halfway drinking bottles that need to be soaked and sterilized for the hundredth time in a day! Somehow yet again your dog has managed to sniff out that one dirty diaper you forgot to pick up and it’s in shatters all over the floor along with the fourth dirty spit up filled outfit you’ve tossed to the side within a few hours of the last changing!!

You’ve fed, burped, changed and cuddled your baby and for some reason they just feel like crying all day for the third straight day in a row. Yet that five minute glimmer you get when they smile or laugh or start to try to roll over makes the day seem less chaotic, even if they were just smiling because they have gas and not because you were singing them the itsy bitsy spider in a shallow toned baby voice! Somehow I’m beginning to thing maybe there is no normal balance to it all. Maybe we all just have to ride the storm and find our own ways of staying dry. What’s normal for the spider is chaos to the fly right ?!
