Some Advice For Living in a Kakistocracy

When you live in a Kakistocracy you need to know the parameters. One of the first things you must learn is; “If You Have To Apply For a Job, You Won’t Get it.”

Jobs are the property of Big Men or Big Women; these are politicians or relatives of politicians, or people who ‘control’ a business or Governmental or Educational institution. These are the people who say; “hire”.

To walk in, even with a trailer full of qualifications and recommendations does not matter. One can walk in wearing rags and never attended High School for all that matters.

The other evening, a discussion cum argument was brewing. A highly respected Attorney who had appeared in a number of cases was making this point. The forever optimistic innocent was denying the facts (as I portrayed them).

To prove a point, the Attorney applied for a teaching position at the Law School.

Now in Jamaica the legal dims are teaching. They are not able of presenting a case on their own. They have reached the positions they hold via Big Men or Big Women, but are less useful then hiring someone who sweeps a court room, for at least that person might be familiar with legal procedure.

Once, the best and the brightest went to teach. They felt it was their duty, they had a passion. They were replaced by the worst legal minds who couldn’t cut it at the Bar.

Now one would think, someone of the caliber of this Attorney would be grabbed up as a Christmas present, because she would be their emblem of quality. They could quote her name and gain credibility.

She applied and was turned down.

This ‘rejection’ was not painful, in fact, it proved the adage; if you have to apply for a position you won’t get it.

The fact she would be earning less, if she had been accepted, was never considered. This is because the adage is true. It is always true. She had no doubt she would be rejected and the legal dims were persist, unable to teach more than they knew. Turning out pathetic excuses for attorneys.

Which is just the kind wanted in a Kakistocrasy.
