I have been talking to some of my coworkers about smoking and its side effects and later shared it on Facebook. One of my offline friends immediately sent me a message and asked “What is so bad about smoking?” I asked him that why do you feel smoking is not harmful? I knew he was a chain smoker and smokes at least 20-25 cigarettes a day.
He said he doesn’t understand what is so bad about smoking as he was smoking for last two decades and never felt any problem. I asked him whether his wife or children feel the same or have they ever complained? He did not answer me but I know the worst suffers are those who live with a smoker.
As I told you I am not a smoker for more than a decade but I don’t care for cigarette smoke either. But sadly, it is something we must put up with in a free country. Smoking certainly affects the health of people that come in contact with the smoke and drains medical resources unnecessarily.
But our governments look at the revenue that comes to exchequer. I would suggest they look at the medical expenditure while looking at the balance sheet. They will see they are earning lesser than what they are expending on medical bills.
The rules say that smokers are already forbidden to light up anywhere indoors in public places, and even outdoors they must be sure to keep their smoking habit outside of certain zones. I suppose smoking is still legal if rules are followed but one must know that nonsmokers have right to live too.
However, the choice to smoke is their own. In my views it is their own choice to smoke or not to smoke and certainly their lungs and it’s their money. Choice of smoke is their right- Right or wrong. As long the cigarette manufacturing is legal it is not against any constitutional law to smoke but it’s your moral duty to see where you smoke.
