Smelly clothes, bags and appearance in public

It’s okay to carry bags in the supermarket because it saves us from the use of polythene bags, but we should know that backpack/bags are made of absorbent material that are held against sweaty backs and underarms.

If you want to keep your bags free from the fowl stinking smell and tons of germs, remember to wash them every week please, and don’t believe those who say washing your bags once in a year is enough. Maybe it’s enough for you, but it is not enough for people walking behind you.

I was standing on the escalator behind a man with grey hair and a navy blue shirt and it was not for the first time, I have had to stand behind such people at a number of times and nearly be sick just from the smell of the bags. People your bags need washing as often as your shirts do.

I am not sure if the visitors or travelers are a bunch of filthy person without a home or regular employment. I don’t think they don’t find enough time for laundry (maybe some times but not always). Is it really that hard if they wash their clothes and bags and appear like gentlemen, while in the malls or other public places?

After all, you are not living in a space where water doesn’t behave the way it behaves on our planet. I have traveled a lot and I know it is a costly affair to have your clothes washed at laundry in some countries, so this is how I wash my clothes when traveling around the world for extended periods. I use a separate bag to collect my dirty, especially the smelly clothes in place of keeping them with the rest of my clothes.

I generally wash my dirty clothes at the earliest opportunity as soon as I stay in a place where I have enough time to get them dried in time. I always keep a small pack of detergent powder in my traveling kit along with soap, shampoo and my shaving kit. Is it really hard to fill a bucket with hot water, and dip the dirty/smelly clothes for 5-10 minutes or so and stir them with light hands for a couple of times?

I am not saying that I am an expert on laundry, but I would rather walk without clothes than wearing smelly clothes. I read somewhere about a jeans brand which said ‘Wear them ever, wash them never’. Well that could be true for some, but not for all. Most of us wash them as much as we can. The methods could well be different how you wash your clothes.

I know some of you are not washing your clothes to avoid wear and tear. If that is the case I suggest you keep your bags and trousers out of your room turning them inside out where it is sunny and airy but if you need to appear in public and don’t want to be the center of attraction please do something to get rid of the smell.

    • We get used to our own smell be it the bag, our hair, our body. There is a norm that we need to follow and you have clearly explained that here.

    • Not all people are stinking. Not all people are smelly. Not all people are clean and tidy. In short, they have their way of caring themselves, the way they wear those clean or filthy garments or clothing. They have their own personality and they are responsible for their hygiene. Nobody could demand from them on what to do. It is good for you that you have realized on how to stay free from smelly and offensive kind of wears. And they are clearly stated and even explained. It's up for them to follow these tips.

It is a good thing that I wash my laundry every 2 days with my own washing machine.
Yes, for those who use laundry bag to wash clothes in public vending machine, it is wise to wash the bag too.
I saw some people brought their own laundry basket with the dirty clothes to dhoby shop ( laundry shop)
