Are you one of those seeking comfort from foods?
Eating foods and drinking is a habit or should we say a part of our lives. The food like vegetables and fruits are the source of nutrients for our body.
Sometimes we cannot discipline our eating habit. We eat more than our body needs, which in result we gain weight. One reason why we eat a lot is we are emotionally depressed.
One can experience a bad day and a good day. We sometimes deal with our bad days by eating lots of foods without caring the amount of foods we are taking in. It seems we are eliminating our emotional pain through the comfort of eating. Like exercise, after eating pleasurable foods will make you feel better.
Some people find eating foods as a reliever of their stress. Instead of going out to find some solutions to their problem, they hide behind their favorite foods.
How can a person discern if he/she is eating because of stress? One obvious sign is gaining too much weight without knowing it in the first place. When you find out this sign, try to examine yourself and ask the following questions:
If you said “YES” to most of the question, then you probably are undergoing the situation of seeking comfort from the food. You’ve been eating even if not necessary or even if you’re not hungry. You’re eating in no time. You’re eating foods without caring if it is nutritious or not, all you care about is the taste that comforts you. Have you been eating much of such foods as French fries or any fried foods( kind of foods that contains high fats), macaroni and cheese or mashed potatoes( high in carbohydrates), or sugary foods like donuts, cookies, cakes, and ice creams? If that’s so, then you need to seek for a help. You might be emotionally depressed.
Dieting has nothing to do with it or changing your habits in eating but you have to gain control of your emotions so you can deal with it properly.
Some advice for this case of eating to comfort is you have to recognize that you have a problem. If you cannot solve it on your own, you accept it that you cannot. Go to a family or your trusted friend and open up your problem. You may also ask the help of a professional counselor.
Finding ways to solve your problems will replace your habit of depending on foods when problem arise.
