Scam Proof

I never win.   This was proven at the supermarket some years ago when there were three prizes and four entries.

All my life I have never won; save when I was 13 and at some charity auction won a round bed spread.  I didn’t have a round bed.

I say all this to alert you that any email, pop up, whatever, which has any kind of ‘You Won!” in it is immediately tossed into the trash.

As Jamaica got onto the WWW late, (1995) we had spent the past six years using BBS (Bulletin Board Services) so that all the tricks and hacks were known to us before we did our first step on the Information Highway.

We had learned the value of Nicknames of passwords, of hiding our location and identity.

This means that getting all those scam emails has always been more joke than danger.

The funny thing is that many of us, having done so well in using email accounts which have no truth to them, we get every kind of scam email known to humanity.

Just today I was told I had inherited 5.3 Million U.S. dollars, was invited to loot the Nigerian treasury (again), was told about my discount at Walmarts, my free gift, as well as the various contests I won.

Living in Jamaica it’s kind of odd, don’t you think, that I’d inherit money… especially when the name on my email account isn’t mine?

And Nigeria?  Jamaica has long replaced them on the list of scammers so they are chasing Usain Bolt.

As there is no Walmarts within a thousand miles I don’t think I’d get a discount.

And, as I never enter any contest whatsoever, I couldn’t win.

When it came to online writing scams, Bubblews didn’t get its chance.   I knew, (reading carefully) that it could never fulfill all its promises, so got my first cash out, didn’t bother put in for my second until the threshold changed, got that, and never wrote again.

Not that what I had written for them was of any value at all whatsoever, as what I would do is write an time for a real writing site, then make an ‘extraction’.

For example, if I were to post this item on Bubblews I would have cut it in thirds, dumbed it down. I would post one bit of it as article one, the other two bits as article two and three.

To protect yourself, never click on any ‘you won’ post, never believe you inherited any money or will ever get any money anywhere.   Anyone who offers it, is a scammer.

    • Scammers are widespread on the internet. Whenever I received such prompts, I wouldn't dare to open it. I almost had hacked by the scammers when they tried to open my PayPal account. That's not a good idea. Scammers are leveled up in being swindlers on the internet.

    • Oh yes. One just has to be grounded in the fact that scammers are busy...and anything that can be hacked will be hacked.

    • Those 'legacy' mails are a common feature in my email folder. I do not open them but just delete them. But there have been some who acted on those mails and were robbed of the initial money that the emails demand before "processing the papers" not to speak of sending all personal details such as physical addresses and so on.

    • A lot of people fall for those scams. When you don't live in the US they become comical, because the writers assume you live in America and shop at these places or applied for this credit card.
