The good thing about the use of electric bike or e-bike in the community is how it helps to protect the environment. By using the no exhaustion machine will contribute the fight against global warming and climate change. No smoke means cleaner surrounding. Free from gas and carbon dioxide. With the use of electrical energy, the motorcycle can run and bring you to the destination.
The bad side of e-bike is when the children use it as part of their daily lives. You can see the little kids driving the two-wheeled or tree-wheeled vehicle in the national road and even in the central business district without the alarm of accident or might have happen to them.
Why? Because the vehicle is considered bicycle. No registration in the Land Transportation Office and no required driver’s license to the driver. This reason gives the children the leeway to drive the motorcycle.
The local government units see the danger. The accident might happen and because the drivers are children, the damage could not just be in the parents or guardians of the kids but also to the second party or the other vehicle involved in the accident. What if the accident will cause not only heavy injuries but also… death.
To avoid this situation, an ordinance was put into a public hearing regulating the use of e-bikes. The regulation includes the registration of the electric bicycles, using of helmets of the drivers, using the special lanes or shoulders of the national road for e-bikes, providing penalties thereof and prohibiting the 12 years old below driving in the national road.
The proposed law was carried out in the said public hearing. It was approved by the attendees that include the owners, village chieftains, dealers, teachers and individuals who want to participate in the said public hearing.
After 15 days, after approval in the city council, the ordinance will be implemented as law.
