A Ray of Hope Infuses a New Soul in the Old Dead Soul

Nothing is single on earth except God, tongue, nose, and heart and the single on earth and heaven controls all inferior things of earth and heavens. As we see in daily life that life is a mixture of two things, light and darkness, glee and gloom, pain and pleasure, male and female, negative and positive, North Pole and South Pole. Love and hate, hope and hopelessness, brave and timid, fat and smart…

But life rests on hope and a ray of hope may infuse a new soul in the old dead soul and it is a fact people see it in practical life. We are connected with God with thread of hope. We all make good deeds on the basis of hope to get its reward on the Day of Judgment in shape of Paradise the lost home of man , lost by Eve and Adam.

I have seen in practical life when human luck fails in business just hope revives human will power to start a new business with a new zeal and zest because hope is the mother of success on earth and in heaven. Men start their business in hope of profit, students study in hope of getting a better future; mothers bring their children up in hope of goodness.

I read a story in my childhood that a rich man’s business fails and becomes bankrupt and disappointments encircle him and he was thinking of making suicide but in the meanwhile his son comes in his office and offers some money to his father to start a new business in hope of o regain his lost glory of business.

The story deals thoroughly with an optimistic old man’s career’s ups and downs. A big tycoon went into liquidation and the liquidators claimed to be the master of the firm and its machinery, furniture and all valuable things and took them away forever. Now Harold is sitting all alone in the chair in his office as a bankrupt business man. As the text shows”

There was no throb of machine, no hum of voices,

no sound at all, but the echo of their steps

on the empty floor.”

In such condition, his son comes to see him and offers him some money to restart his business. First he refused to take the money but after a short time he accepted the money to restart his failed business to be a big tycoon again.

In the meanwhile, he says that he is not worried to be a bankrupt because ups and downs in business are essential parts of a big business. Sometimes luck goes up and sometimes luck goes down in business. He hopes to be a big tycoon again. All his business fellows are these days bankrupt. As the text shows:

:I came up this morning with Mr. Higgins, you remember

Higgins? They are in liquidation. They are…”

In a big business sometimes wealth proves to be a curse and sometimes a blessing. He hopes to restart his business in future so he will earn soon his lost money and wealth. Now he wants to spend his rest of life in a cozy room peacefully near a lake full of natural scenes and beauty.

As we see the character of Harold is of an optimist. Because first he refused to restart his business but money greed turned this idea and he was ready to accept his son’s money to recover his lost wealth very soon. Money-offer reminded him of his past lost glory of his business and thus it made him fresh listening to restarting his failed business again. As the text shows:

“He hated to admit his own poverty. He hated to offer

charity to his father…”Why did not you tell me

before you could raise money.”

In old age, he considered himself a very lucky man. On the other hand, his son is an educated man and is a lecturer in a college. He wanted to help his father in the time of business crisis. His son had saved some money for rainy days while his father had wasted all his money in revelry like a spendthrift child.

To sum up, it is a beautifully written story on an optimistic old man even in the crisis. In spite of a heavy loss in business he is hopeful about his future due to watching business ups and downs and after a short time it goes up.

Hope is an integral part of going up in any walk of life. Hope makes men great and disappointment makes men small. Actually his son’s money-offer makes him young otherwise he had lost his all hopes and courage and was seeing his dark future. So money offer turns his dark future into a bright future.
