Preparing For The Coming Typhoon Lawin

There’s no doubt about it, typhoon Lawin with the international name Haima is heading towards our region, northern Philippines. We are in the province of Ilocos Sur and we are expecting the heavy rains and strong winds of the typhoon by Thursday, October 20.

The typhoon is moving west northwest and with the hammering 185 kilometers per hour and 230 kph in gustiness, it is expected to cause disaster in our place. The bad case is that farmers are supposed to harvest the rice grains this season.

This is a strong typhoon and the local government is really giving warning up to date to the people and community. Preparation against the typhoon is one of the best thing to do to avoid catastrophic damages in our living and livelihood.

The Disaster Risk Reduction Management Center convene a meeting to the barangays and concerned agencies to prepare the things needed to do: to identify the flood areas of the city or municipalities; pruning the trees that could possibly block the roads for the emergency response or can cause damage to house, schools and other edifices; communications for easy contact to the rescuers, first aiders and emergency action.

The families are also advised to have the bag with the medicines, food packs, water and among others. They are also advised to strengthen their house if it need to, and never think twice to go to the evacuation center if it need too.

Typhoon Lawin is strong and though it is possible to move upward before it landfall but it is always better when you are prepared.###
