I came out for a walk and found the road blocked. Many cars, rickshaws and bikes were motionless as there was no way out.
The vendors selling fruits and vegetables also played their role. A shopkeeper approached one of them, put his hand on his chin and requested him to get aside so that the traffic could have its flow but he did not pay any heed to this request. Some car drivers came to him with their polite requests but the vendor was not willing to give way to traffic. An old man requested him to behave like a good citizen. The old man gave him a lecture in this regard and the vendor got irritated at him. He raised his voice to the highest of his pitch and shouted: How easy it is to ask a poor man like me to get aside. Why don t you ask that careless car driver to give way. Don’t you see that van parked over there? You guys only know how to bully a poor man! You can’t face the rich and well to do people. Then the vendor addressed the mob and said: You please tell me one thing. Should I join a gang of robbers? Should I become a thief? Should I commit suicide? He stared at the crowd angrily for a reply. An old man came forward and said: My dear friend! We only want you to get your barrow aside. The vendor got furious once again .He started abusing the people around him. At this moment, a young man appeared on the scene. He pushed the barrow towards the neighboring street. The barrow got out of his control and wheeled down the street very fast. The vendor abused the young man and got powerful blows on his face in retaliation. He fell down on the ground and lost his senses. The shopkeepers tried to bring him to his senses but in vain. Finally, the vendor was hospitalized and the traffic flowed as usual.
It is a short story but it conveys a good message. It shows the behavior of persons living in a society.
I have some questions in my mind:
Why the poor vendor was not ready to change his attitude when a lot of people tried to convince him without using force?
These soft-hearted people did not cause any harm to him rather they were trying to save him from some sort of loss but all their plans ended in a fiasco.
There may be some sort of psychological problems behind the behavior of the vendor, and psychiatrists may explain these problems. The vendor threatened to leave his current job and to involve in some criminal activity. It was a sad incident but I was helpless in this regard as I was not in a position to help that poor guy.
Anyhow such type of behavior is very common in our societies and we do see the same very frequently.
What can we do in this connection?
What are our duties in this regard?
I would like to hear from the members of the site.

I did not know it is a short narrative story, I though it is real life happening in the city. But sometimes there is reality in the words of the poor vendor and of course there are also some happening that these vendors really causing headache to the rich people and government.
You are right. It was a real life happening and my father did observe the event. Pakistan and India do face same sort of issues and problems at every level. (If I am not wrong, you are from India)
