Writing online is not just putting your thoughts on a screen. You want people to read, you want them to think, you want them to comment.
You want someone to be inspired to respond to what you say; whether favourable or unfavourable.
You might write something that seems perfect to you, but if there are no comments you won’t know if you’ve hit the mark, if people are reading, if they understand what they read.
The Basic Comment
The basic comment may be; “I liked/didn’t like” and no more. But there are those comments which share ideas, those commentators who bring something to your article.
Real comments deserve a response. Any writer seeing a comment should respond.
Debates
Sometimes there is a disagreement. It is not an attack, it is a difference of opinion. Opening a debate is good, because people from all over the world have different ideas, opinions, experiences.
Many times a debate creates even more interest and the article becomes almost a forum where pros and cons reside.
As is obvious. comments bring views and on many sites which pay by views, it is coin in your pocket.
But there are certain kinds of comments you have to consider differently.
The Troll
Trolls need attention. They have nothing to say, they only exist to attack. They want a flame war. When you respond, they keep going to get the last word.
Now, where one is paid by views, you want them to post a million times. However, need a strategy which protects your article but fills your pocket.
The Basic Method
1. Never descend to their level, remain polite.
2. Where possible, delete their earlier responses to clean out the stable.
3. Respond to normal people, sometimes skipping the Troll. This might make him double post.
4. When you respond, do so rather obliquely, post what furthers your view, not really responding to the Troll post.
This strategy is effective in that the Troll will continue to post and post again. You will not descend to Its level. You will delete its earlier posts which limits its ‘power’, and reiterate your views in your comments.
A Troll is not the Only fauna in the Zoo. There is also the Pompous Prig.
Prig
This is a creature who thinks he knows everything. Disdainful, pseudo-intellectual, he holds himself above you and the fray. He will attack when he doesn’t understand or is aware of what you are saying, striving to prove how brilliant he is.
Respond in a semi-provocative, that is border insult. Repeat your point without reference, which will impel him to respond.
He can not stop as he needs the last word. If you post your reference too early, to prove your point and disprove his, you will lose him, so hold back as long as you can.
CAVEAT
Many Trolls and Prigs will often write an item against you or your article. Never go to their site. If you go, Never Comment.
Many throw the ‘bait’ on your site, trying to lure you to become the Troll or Prig on their’s. Don’t fall for it.

When I see a troll comments on my post, I first comment back politely. However, when he answers in retaliatory manner, that's the time I will report him to Admin. We should never let them get away with their Bashings.
