Not Speaking up is a Disservice

Do we just allow things to happen? Sit back and allow chaos to occur? A lot times people prefer chaos for some reason. Perhaps they may feel as if it’s fun but what are we willing to risk for fun? Someone being bashed or bullied is considered fun these days. Imagine a child getting off the school bus and a group of teens starting beating the child, would you stand back and allow it to happen, or would you try to intervene? Some may pretend as if they didn’t see the child being beaten. Society can be just that brutal.

Compassion seems to be hiding somewhere. People aren’t as loving as they was perhaps 10 years ago. It’s as if the heart has grown cold. That good for our environments or society. People will only be supportive when and step in when it’s beneficial in some way. If no one stands up to some of these issues that corrupt our society we will continue to see a deterioration of an already downward spiral society. We have do better than what we’re doing. Allowing youth and others to be battered and attacked.

There was an incident some years back with a kid who was an honor student and a bunch of students attacked him with boards, they beat the student to death, no one intervened. People gathered and watched while the poor child beaten as if he wasn’t a human being. His name was Derrion Albert and he was 16 years old. In fact he was trying to assist another student.  Here’s the video of the incident.

The incident could have occurred anywhere but the incident occurred in Chicago. Where was law enforcement. Someone should have stepped in to rescue that child. Is our society that cold? Yes, the incident is considered black on black crime, but there’s incidents that occur with any race and there’s absolutely no assistance. A mother losing her son to senseless violence. How out of control does society have to be before officials and others step in?

There’s already a problem with youth violence. If no one demonstrates care then the issues will continue to rise. Were are the
hearts of the people?” There’s some that truly care about the youth and others but are too afraid to speak up and to step in. We simply can not allow our society to continue to behave in such manner.

    • There are times during anyone's career when it's preferable to stay quiet, and avoid confrontations or drama. And, there are other times when staying quiet may be the easy thing to do — but not the right thing.

You may be put in a situation that requires you to speak up for the good of the company, yourself, or another employee. Your job could be put in jeopardy by not speaking up. You could simply be doing yourself a disservice by not speaking your mind, and letting others know just how you feel. Here are 10 of those times. In these situations, speak up, and do it quickly.

Youth violence and crime affect a community's economic health, as well as individuals' physical and mental health and well-being. Homicide is the third leading cause of death for youth in our country. In 2012, more than 630,000 young people ages 10-24 were treated in emergency departments for injuries sustained from violence. 1

Each neighborhood and community has unique experiences with violence and different resources available to them. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to preventing youth violence. However, communities can help reduce youth violence by developing a city-wide strategy that combines prevention, intervention, treatment, and re-entry strategies. The National Forum on Youth Violence Prevention is working with communities to design these strategies.
