The country Philippines mourns for the passing away of the former Senator Mirriam Defensor-Santiago. She dies of a lingering illness which she announced sometime in 2014. Now her time has come in the morning of 29th day of September as declared by her husband Atty. Jun Santiago.
The news of Miriam’s death spread like a wild fire on the Internet and especially in the Facebook. Extending of condolonces to the bereaved family of Santiago keeps on popping up on the said top rated FB social media.
Madam Santiago’s legacy left to the Filipino was her indominatable spirit of fighting the graft and corruption in the system of the Philippine government. She has dared everyone who stands against her for this crusade. She has never moved an inch for the threat hurled against every day. By this disposition, she has earned the title as the “iron lady” in the house of the Senate.
As a good senator, she has earned a high regards from the people in all walks of life. She is the fighter of the masses. With that high rating performance, she has dared to run for the president in the last election. She did a good try. But she didn’t make it. The people would surmise the very reason why she didn’t make due to her health issue. She made public that she had a stage 4 cancer. She is fighting it but her time has arrived.
Who is Miriam Defensor-Santiago?
She is an Ilonggo. She lives in Iloilo City. She is born on June 15, 1945. She is an accomplished government worker for she has served in the three branches of the government. She has been a judge, a cabinet member and a Senator. As a Senator, she tops the other lawmakers in authoring and sponsoring laws and bills.
She has tried in running for the presidential race twice but lost. Anyway it didn’t drag her down as far as public service is concerned. She did her best in fighting anomalous government projects and programs. No wonder that she is regarded by every Filipino as fighter, honest, and incorruptible kind of government servant.
In 2016 Presidential elections, she ran as one of the candidates in spite of her doctor’s declaration that she’s suffering from a lung cancer. Yet, she pursued such ambition to be the President of the Philippines and lost.
Now only her memory remains as the “Iron Lady of Asia”. Miriam’s fighting spirit stays behind for every Filipino.

My respect to her. Even during the times she was so criticized by her detractors (mostly politicians and big names in industry)my respect was always on her. Her child did not take the too much issues on her but look at her, still strong and face the people with dignity. My famous line from her was not her Pick Up Lines but being a mother "joyful noise"-- she describes the baby when they adopted a baby and bring in their home and said she miss the joyful noise.
May Senator Senator Santiago rest in peace. Many felt sorry about her death.She is very useful and important to Philippines.I salute this brave lady, strong in determination and never was she afraid to fight all ills in the Philippine politics, and her brilliance shone like a star whose light never dims.
I feel bad because of her death. I always have this high hope that she would be able to rule the Philippines. She has all the guts to defend the honor of our country. Now, what will happen? Let us wait for any changes, if there is really any changes. Pray for the Philippines! :-(
