kaylar wrote a new post, How To Fast – Day Of Atonement 8 years, 1 month ago

Once a year there is a very important day of Atonement, and I fast from sundown the day before until three stars are seen the next day.  That is about 25 hours with no food nor water.

As I have been doing it […]

    • Fasting for one day I don’t find difficult. But there are some who fast for several days. I don’t know how they do it! I understand it may be for religious reasons or they have a statement or protest about a matter that’s important to them. But I still don’t see how they do it!

      • If you start the one day fast as I did, after a while you get a kind of control of it. I’ll be straight, when I broke my fast I really wasn’t hungry nor thirsty. I probably could have gone to sleep and woken and drank water… and not really been that hungry.

        • Perhaps there is something God put in our bodies that acts like an “adapter mechanism” so that we can survive without food longer than we even realize.

The pig thing is in the hallway, repeating a remark over and again, hoping I will respond.

I have ignored her for days.  She is looking for contention, but I have decided that I do not engage with pig […]

    • Aw darling friend I think she just wins because you think and talk about her. I hope you sort things with your girlfriend, it sounds very complex to me. Wish you beautiful day and lot of the happiness.

    • I agree it’s like a mutual agreement where when one starts to argue the other one should start. It’s like it comes natuarally. When someone argues or is constantly arguing there is a problem somewhere. If there is such a person that you have to keep dealing with its best to keep off because nothing you say will keep them quiet. When one starts an argument and the other person does not respond the argument will not go on because there will be no one to argue with

      • I made up my mind I’m not responding. I didn’t respond yesterday and today she stood outside my door talking loud… no response.

I’m not responding to her. Let her argue with herself.

    • LOL. The title of your post got my attention because it’s similar to an expression my late mother used to say to me. “It’s takes two to make an argument.” 🙂 Here’s the things with an argument. Figure out if it’s justified. By that I mean: ‘Did you cause it?’ I did not start it. I said “cause”. If it’s your fault you owe that person. If the problem is not on your side of the fence, don’t worry about it, unless that person is getting up in your face and may cause you harm or injury. In that case, you would have to take appropriate action to protect and defend yourself. Otherwise … ignoring them will take care of the matter, as far as you’re concerned. Who they mad at? Can’t be you! 🙂

    • Yes. the pig like things exist in each and every society. What actually they want is to share their anger with others. They drag somebody into the pond they live in and try to find some solace. These are very peculiar personalities. The best way to deal with these people is to remain quiet or to maintain a distance from them. Even then they will not leave one. They will approach you with a hammer in their mouth and start shouting. How long should we tolerate? Another technique is to invite some unknown guest and to sacrifice him.

I think this is a psychological instability of mind of a person. Even then, the best way as you said is to keep them away or to keep ourselves away from these pig things.

      • You know exactly what you are saying. That is the situation. Just staying away from the pig thing is the only way to avoid the situation. There is no ‘normal’ here.

    • What an insightful post! Sometimes the best way to avoid an argument is not to be drawn into it as you say. There are times when walking away or ignoring the bait is an act of wisdom and courage. Before being drawn into an argument ask yourself: is it necessary? What good will it accomplish? People are drawn into useless arguments simply because they let their ego determine how they should respond. Some think that keeping quite is an act of cowardice and submission. But ignoring a person or walking away will deprive the “ping thing” of the audience that she craves for….

    • Yes, that is exactly correct.

    • Well you can only hope the best for her

There are five main languages; English, French, Spanish, Russian and Chinese.  There is also German and Arabic, which have a few million users.   If you are lucky enough to be born in a nation which speaks E […]

    • 🙌✊💯

    • Well, yeah…

    • I have always considered myself fortunate to live in a country where English is the official language. However, I have always counted learning other languages as a plus. Watched a Korean drama and one of the men who worked with the merchant was Japanese and did not speak the language. In one scene the merchant comes in and finds the servant girl teaching the man how to speak Korean. He asks: “What’s going on?” The Japanese guy responds to the effect: “I got tired of being a dummy and not knowing what was going on.” 🙂 It doesn’t take a genius to know that a person who can speak more than one language has an advantage over a person who only speaks one language.

      • If Jamaicans could speak English, read it and write it, then fine. Go out in the street and babble in Patwa. Rap in it, roll in it. But when all you can speak is a pidgin like Patwa, well just look at the situaiton. How many Jamaicans can participate in a site like this?

If they can’t even write on a site like this, what are their job prospects?

        • You just said a mouth full! Most of the people I’ve met from Jamaica – who came to America – spoke English and were literate, so I had no idea it was such a big problem. The picture you paint is bleak! Can they even get access to a computer with the Internet? If so, there are many sites where they can teach themselves. If not, can they even get a book to read? Surely when they read they won’t see the words they speak! A determined person who wants to be educated will find a way. But if the person doesn’t see the need, then you can’t convince them no matter how much you preach to them. I have a friend who said one of his parents couldn’t read or write and the other one could barely read and write. One of his parents didn’t see the need for education. But one of his parents made sure he went to school and learned!! Thank God he had one parent in his corner!

          • People who left school in the 1970s had to speak, read, write, proper English. That was it. No way around it. Whether you were in bowels of Trelawney or on King Street in Town, everyone had to pass English, and it was G.C.E. English.

The ‘problem’ was that there were kids from the ghetto who went to school and did well. There were people who never went to High School but took the exams on their own and did well and qualified for University.

The Upper Class would find their children did not get in because the helper’s son did.

To prevent this, there was a drive, supported by the people, to push ‘patwa’. Right now, if you were in Jamaica you would hear a noise of babble in which you wouldn’t understand a word.

“Mididaseh a whayuado? Imseh whayouseh? Miseh whayuado?”

Now this is the run together of patwa… Mi did a seh…(I said) wha you a do? (what did you do?) Im seh (he said) wha you seh? (what did you say?) Mi seh wha yu a do?” I said what did you do?

As you can see, not only are the words mangled, but the words are run together so that miaseh sounds like a word when it is three words. It would be like typing wherewereyou?

This ‘branding on the tongue’ disqualifies people in the lower classes.

            • Yes. I understand you clearly now. Seems like a well laid out plan to keep a certain group of people down. You may say something and nobody listens. But somebody else who is influential or respected may say the same thing and then all of a sudden it become “the right thing to do”. Do you catch my drift? Are there no “people with influence” in Jamaica who can wake up the masses and make them see the value of communicating in a language that’s understand by most people in various parts of the world?

    • English is most important language all over the world due to four reasons:

English was originally the language of England, but through the historical efforts of the British Empire it has become the primary or secondary language of many former British colonies such as the United States, Canada, Australia, and India. Currently, English is the primary language of not only countries actively touched by British imperialism, but also many business and cultural spheres dominated by those countries. It is the language of Hollywood and the language of international banking and business. As such, it is a useful and even necessary language to know.

4 reasons why learning English is so important. 1. English may not be the most spoken language in the world, but it is the official language in a large number of countries. It is estimated that the number of people in the world that use in English to communicate on a regular basis is 2 billion!Sep 30, 2013

    • English is the ‘Universal Language’ as French once was. By being able to speak good, if not perfect English, you widen your ability to gain employment, your ability to gain information. Jamaica has gone backwards in a totally false and invented ‘nationalism’

    • Is it only the language that is isolating Haiti from the rest of the world? The corruption is rampant means the people have no ways to ventilate their grievances at the International forum. Most of the people who speak and are capable to take it to the International forum are corrupt and as such, they successfully suppress the feelings that work against their interests. Adding fuel to the fire the earthquakes are doing a good job in minimising the number of sufferers from the hands of the Government. Instead of people suffering starvation and the death in the hands of the Government nature is taking care of them. It painlessly taking away the lives of the people.

But, a day will definitely come when the Governments have to repent over their scant respect for human loss. They are not feeling the pinch of it. The aid is not reaching to the people even after six years of the Earthquake means one can imagine the height of proportions to which the corruption has reached. It is totally ignoble thing which the Government should feel and the rest of the world must teach such Government a lesson.

    • Poor Haiti, battered by disasters and battered by corruption. The Haitians maybe can bear the natural disasters that constantly passing in their lands, but the sad thing is the aids that keep coming for them but was not given. Now, Matthew have once again tested them, hope they can recover soon.

    • When Matthew was days out, Jamaica was under a watch, battening down. No one told the Haitians. Many, interviewed by BBC said they didn’t know a storm was coming.

The Aid given to Haiti in 2010 never reached the people. Haiti is so corrupt and uncaring for its people.

    • Looking at the pic of destruction of Haiti my senses fail what happen with the children, men and women how may lives have been destroyed in this heavy hurricane but it is natural all men and scientists are useless before it because I think it God’s wrath upon human being, why/No body knows.

I have read in the newspaper that the storm was late afternoon yesterday centred about 55 miles (90 kilometres) south-west of the eastern tip of Cuba and was moving north near 10 mph (17 kph).

The centre of the storm was projected to pass about 50 miles north-east of the US naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

In Cuba, workers removed traffic lights from poles in the city of Santiago to keep them from getting blown away.

In the United States, Florida Governor Rick Scott urged coastal residents to prepare for the possibility of a direct hit and keep three days’ worth of food, water and medicine. The Red Cross put out a call for volunteers in South Carolina, and the White House said relief supplies were being moved to emergency staging areas in the southeast.

“We do not know yet whether the centre of Matthew will actually come ashore in Florida. That’s possible,” said Rick Knabb, director of the hurricane centre.

      • Haiti’s government doesn’t care about the people. The very rich, yes. The foreigners, yes. The average people? As far as it seems, they should die. They are always left to die.

    • You say right that women are going backward in every state due to no strong organization of women all over the worlds. Women are being crushed mercilessly by men and politicians all countries. I think wold that any Lenin were born on earth who could unite women at one platform just to save women from the clutches of cruel and callous men.

I have read recently these news against women…
      Violence against Women.
As with all violence, violence against women is unacceptable, but feminists like Andrea Dworkin who talk about an “epidemic of murders of women” grossly distort the facts. The most prevalent victims of violent crime are young black men, not women. The homicide rate for young white women is 3.4 per 100,000, and for black women and white men of the same age it is 14.3 and 14.5 respectively, more than four-times higher, but for young black men it is 117.1, 34 times that for white women!

      I am listening a new voice for women’s liberty…
A New Feminism. The world is hearing a new voice—that of individualist feminism, which embraces the values of personal choice and responsibility. LIBERTY FOR WOMEN is that voice, and authors in the book:
      • Reject victimhood
      • Defend reproductive rights
      • Embrace men as full and valued partners
      • Defend domesticity as well as monetary work as respectable feminist goals
      • Oppose censorship and laws restricting the sexual relations of consenting adults
      • Support each woman’s right to self-defense and gun ownership
      • Decry gender-based laws (affirmative action, comparable worth, gender-based licensing and employment laws, etc.)

    • And we need to be beware of habitual liars and those who are too much of an expert on telling lies, as they can mislead us or even cause trouble.
Also, we need to make sure we do not fall into same habits.

      • Psychopaths are excellent liars. It is very difficult, unless you are very familiar with the person and know they are a psychopath to catch them. They can pass a lie detector test, because the truth is what they say it is and absolutely believe what they are saying.

    • I also think that sometimes lying is another form of cowardice. The liar does not have the strength to face the person and tell him/her what he is actually feeling and why he/she feels that way. This is especially for those you mentioned who lie and post suggestive pictures on facebook. It’s just another easy way to cope out rather than face reality. And the bad part of lying: you tend to forget what you said before and contradict yourself….

      • Scopalamine, also known as truth serum, actually removes fear. It was developed to send soldiers into battle who would be totally without fear. It is a truth serum because once you have no fear you can tell the truth.

    • Posting on Fb is only satisfying ones own psychological thirst. These people actually lie because many people do no believe them. They lie because they want to tell others they are good at this art. They consider this as an art rather than a weakness of their own. Posting pictures of everything is only give them a self satisfaction.

      • They are not good liars. If they were, they wouldn’t publish some much junk on facebook. If they were really busy they could maybe post once a week… and then something only for their friends, not stupid pictures no one needs to see or network some story.

    • I have my co-worker who is regular worker in our gym and he treated us bad, all who work on part-time contract or no full work hours. Because of his bullying and constant lies to our boss my day job become hell in which I was frying every day. It was so bad we called him Hellboy. He lied to boss for months until I record him and his behavior. Now we have peace but it is very tense because Hellboy during even short hours make tension break air. He was very smooth lair but even the smoothest come to end.

      • It was good you could record him… but he should be fired. The other workers have to figure out how to get rid of him.

    • The only “cure” for this “malady” is to tell the truth. Labeling a person as “pathological” is giving them an medical excuse for their continued bad behavior. “… all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” Either that statement is true or it was just written to scare people and there’s no need to take it seriously. All liars are only going to get one chance to test and find out if it’s just a “theory”. I wonder if doctors even mention this statement in their treatment or remedy. Yep. Yep. I’m taking the hard line on this one.

      • I am talking about a psychopath… not all are serial murderers. Many are in business. They have this ability to lie… narcissists as well. You can strap them to a lie detector and it would not pick up the lie. It’s a fact.

    • yes you say right that most of the people tell a lie at home and out of homes. We must think what is a lie? Tell the truth now: that includes you and me. In fact, some people, sad to say, lie almost all the time. Psychologists call these people compulsive or psychopathic liars. They tell lies even when they don’t have to.

There are two kinds of people who lie to hide his fault and other tell a lie to trap in their cunning net so that they get any type of benefit such person are by birth liars

Some people are very expert in telling a lie that the expert cannot catch his lie at at cast.

But telling a lie is a bad things because it mars human character and prestige in the society. Slowly and slowly such people lose confidence among the people and at the end they get shame and nothing else.

That is why we must not tell a lie in life but truth that brings respect on earth and God likes it for all on earth. Tell truth, just truth and nothing else but truth saves human life on earth.

      • We know the difference between truth and lie. We might be in error… for example, you see someone a distance away and think it is your cousin, but then realise, no, it is not. Others would see that person, say it is their cousin, and when they realise it is not… unrealise it. It is a psychological situation like schizophrenia or Compulsive behaviour.

    • You have to know they are psychopaths. When I was very young, there was this girl who lied so well… she was just a kid, but she had a way of speaking and holding herself that everyone believed her. If she told the teacher that William knocked over the chair, the teacher would believe her… and that was it… even if William wasn’t even in the room.

    • Natural calamities in any form are dangerous. They could wreak a great havoc to lives, properties and crops. In our country, typhoon is the common natural catastrophe that often hits the island. Homes are badly damaged. Lives are claimed. Flash floods add danger to those people who are living near the river. Government especially the Disaster Risk Reduction Management is in great mobilization to send rescue operations.

Storm usually takes two or three days raging its wrath all over the country. Public typhoon signal is hoisted to make everyone aware and so that they may know what precautionary measures to do. When storm signal number 3 is announced all works in government offices and private agencies are suspended. Of course, classes in all level are also suspended. After the storm our country suffered lots of damages.

    • Though very depressing, your post sums up the situation to a tee. Writers are forced to spend longer hours on the keyboard and generally good and bad writers are earning the same amount because a lot more depends on how active you are on social media than how well ranked an article is on search engines.

      • I learned of many writing sites via a search which led me to an article and I joined the site. Now… no one knows this article exists unless they are members of this site.

    • I have written on many sites even on my personal blogs English poetry Forum and Urdu Poetry Forum but a lot scamming I find on my name other people pus their own name with my name because my name if ranked in google I have written thousands of articles.

Scammers do what they can but what can I do in this matter? We must have to take steps or make any solid policy to avoid scammers.

You receive an e-mail that looks like it came from your bank, warning you about identity theft and asking that you log in and verify your account information. The message says that if you don’t take action immediately, your account will be terminated.

What actually happens: Even though the e-mail looks like the real deal, complete with authentic logos and working Web links, it’s a clever fake. The Web site where you’re told to enter your account information is also bogus. In some instances, really smart phishers direct you to the genuine Web site, then pop up a window over the site that captures your personal information.

The risk: Your account information will be sold to criminals, who’ll use it to ruin your credit and drain your account. According to Gartner, phishing scammers took consumers (and their banks, who had to cover the charges) for $1.2 billion in 2003.

The letter says the scammers are seeking an accomplice who will transfer the funds into their account for a cut of the total–usually around 30 percent. You’ll be asked to travel overseas to meet with the scammers and complete the necessary paperwork. But before the transaction can be finalized, you must pay thousands of dollars in “taxes,” “attorney costs,” “bribes,” or other advance fees.

      synonyms: cyclone, typhoon, tornado, storm, tropical storm, tempest, windstorm, superstorm, gale, squall, whirlwind;

Yes, it was a very dangerous hurricane and it devastated many building and other many valuable things as Hurricane Matthew slammed into Haiti’s south-western tip with howling 145 mph winds yesterday, tearing off roofs in the poor and largely rural area of Petit-Goâve, uprooting trees and leaving rivers bloated and choked with debris.

It marked the first time in 52 years that a Category Four storm made landfall in Haiti.

The storm — at one point the most powerful hurricane in the region in nearly a decade — dumped heavy rain as it swirled on toward Cuba and The Bahamas. Forecasters said it could hit Florida toward the end of the week and push its way up the East Coast of the United States over the weekend.

The dangerous storm blew ashore around dawn in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, hitting a corner of Haiti where many people live in shacks of wood or concrete blocks.

The storm left the peninsula that runs along the southern coast of Haiti cut off from the rest of the country. Many streets were flooded or blocked by landslides and fallen trees. Local radio reported that the water was shoulder high in parts of the city of Les Cayes.

Milriste Nelson, a 65-year-old farmer in the town. said his neighbours fled when the wind ripped the corrugated metal roof from their home. His own small yard was strewn with the fruit he depends on for his livelihood.
