kaylar wrote a new post, Eating Plastic; You Thought it Was Rice 7 years, 11 months ago

Today, it was proven, that the ‘hoax’ of Plastic Rice, is no hoax.

The video making the rounds and appearing on You Tube is not a joke.   Whether the factory is in Vietnam, China or down the road, doesn’t […]

    • I put in the ‘tests’ so just in case you want to be sure…

The Chinese have been dumping garbage here for years. About 3 years ago I had bought a pair of jeans. I was wearing them the 2nd time… just walking. Not fast. And the crotch tore.

I am not surprised about plastic rice

    • It is a very important which has been existing but not much awareness has been created about the subject all over the world. We always think it happens in other cities or countries and not in my neighbourhood and we may end up consuming something like this which is very harmful. As the world says no to plastics this is a new problem which has been cropping on and off in different countries. Nowadays everything is polluted and all companies has come with genetically modified food and more dangerous varieties of products on our dinner table. Polished rice is one more dangerous product doing the rounds. The rice millers try to do the polishing in such a way that they mix some chemicals and give a coating to give the rice a white and glossy look as it looks attractive and people will pay a higher price. The concerned departments of respective governments of each country have to check this and take stringent action against the culprits. A very useful article.

      • The Chinese have been doing this all over the world. In Nigeria it is a major problem. Now it is in Jamaica and may be in your country.

One has to be so careful, even when they buy ‘fresh’ vegetables. I always pick the ones that look a little handicapped because they are not G.M.

    • There are many countries now victims of fake rice and it originates from China.I do not know why Chinese want to scam the world. They are not afraid , why? they do not have God in their lives. There is no one to fear about wrong doings on earth. Even in their own country, they are not afraid for their country also processed illegal drugs. This is not only my own assumption and not really an assumption for these two happened in Philippines fake rice / plastic rice entered Davao city, but they never prospered especially this time under the new President they will surely land 6 feet below the ground should they not stop exporting fake rice to Philippines There are also many Chinese drug pushers jailed in Philippines ,thousands of them. They were caught manufacturing shabu.

    • That is one of the disadvantages of science. Genius people use their knowledge to cheat other people. All their consciences are totally gone.

They don’t care about the effect of what they are doing. What matters is their needs of wealth.

    • It is a very big problem on internet to identify the legit sites who have to pay the people from whom they make promises and take services before ditching and vanishing into thin air without paying any money to the people concerned. As the web happens to be run by the respective companies whose services are being used to host the scam sites these people who own the web engines and help these scam sites to sprout up should take care that their infrastructure is not being misused as even their name gets spoilt and so does their goodwill. Scams occur in different ways on the internet not only with writing sites and writers but with many other products services and places where information is being provided. If there is a branding, grading, rating and tracking process it would be very useful for one and all using the web for different purposes all over the world.

      • As this is a writing site, I focused on those scams. There are many others, i.e. dating sites, and of course when you go to buy something online.

    • it is really scary nowadays to surf the internet … no once can control anything

      • You don’t use your real name. You don’t use your real address, you never give your credit card number, and never put up a real photo. You’ve just cut your chance of being scammed by 60%

    • The Macedonians played US? Oh man! Somebody needs to tell our politicians cause they’re going after the Russians! I’m not good at geography but I’m pretty sure Macedonia and Russia are on two entirely different points on the map. You don’t suppose the Russians hired the Macedonians. Hmmmm? That would be interesting “connect the dots” scenario.

    • Maybe I’m the only one that can check an IP? Macedonians had no interest in politics. They were looking for money. It was exactly as Ulsterman did. He created ‘The Whitehouse Insider’ because he knew people hated Obama and would read anything and believe it.

The chaps in Macedonia tried a number of different ideas before they hit on this one. It was the Macedonians who said the Pope supported Trump.

    • What! This is shocking news to me. Never in my life did i think that people can do this sorts of things but you have just confirmed my fears. I used to think this things are not for real now I know better. I have often asked myself why Americans don’t like people from west Africa so it’s because many were played online? I was in a dating site one time and this was purely innocent I was working on something so I registered in one of th sites so that I can see for myself what people talk about. Each time a guy would come up and request for friendship he would make it very clear on his profile that he is looking for a serious person and he is not willing to send anyone any money or get anyone a visa. And then they would also say that they are not a lottery where money can just be picked at pleasure. Last but not least they would say that do not want to be associated with anyone from Nigeria or Ghana for that matter.now I realize that it was just being biased but something had to have happened for them to say that. Then it was also mandatory that you had Skype so that you could verify for sure that you were talking to someone real. This online games can really make someone go insane and just do stuff that is not right. Thank God I found the truth and got me out of this sorts of things.

Art is making something out things which are thought of as waste or which people think it is no use of. As they have not come across such a thing in their lives. Such concepts however are not easily accepted by the conventional people. As people are averse to something new. But if they keep seeing such a thing again and again they will get used to it. As it costs nothing to make this art. It is a interesting article which has introduced a new concept which people can read understand and appreciate. Maybe they can also experiment with the same. This can be used for a change and adds variety to the art of decorating ones house. Keep up the good work. Look forward to more such articles.

kaylar wrote a new post, If You Have To Apply for the Post, You Won’t Get It 7 years, 11 months ago

In a previous article I mentioned the fact that in Jamaica, if you have to apply for a position, you won’t get it.

I’m not talking about those low level open door type of things where there is no prestige and […]

    • Man! Life in Jamaica sucks!

    • It is totally corrupt here. Almost funny. If your husband was MP and you wanted a job, despite the fact you have absolutely no qualifications for it, it is yours. And they’ll give you Advisors and assistants so that all you do is go to the hair stylist and read what they write when you have to make a public statement.

    • This is the case in many of the countries in the world. If they find that you are vulnerable and are badly in need of the job they try all unwanted things and seek favours for giving jobs or any other kind of security. This is a abusive mentality of the people who are in positions of power. Not only that even the less privileged who may be not in a powerful position also indulge in such activity and take advantage of a man or woman’s personal situation in life. The only solution for this is to raise awareness through different forums and articles highlighting this issue in important magazines and naming and shaming the company or the people involved in such practices which are very unhealthy in a society. If one person sacrifices his one job and tries to highlight the issue properly in the media. Then others would also come forward and this scourge can be eliminated altogether from the society of which we are all part of. Good to see that you have started a debate on this issue through this article. This article can be shared by you with you friends and well wishers and they can also lend a hand in this good cause. The same can be expected from other right thinking individuals in the society. Keep up the good work you have started.

      • The ‘natural’ use of oppression or discrimination or having the handle is endemic. If you ask someone for a glass of water they may do something else before getting it to you because they need to show power.

However, in a kakistocracy as Jamaica all positions are to be given to those who fall into a category even when they are totally unqualified. This is why nothing works in Jamaica.

The ‘Director’ of whatever, be it waste disposal or a hospital is a moron who got the job because of some connection. A member of the public will have a meeting with this moron and realise, very early, this is an idiot who knows nothing.

Seniors I notice have assumed that working on computers is only for youngsters. I am a senior and proved it otherwise. Spending a bit of time to get myself acquainted with it was all that was need for me to start […]

    • What you have told about seniors is very true. I think one of the reason they are not comfortable is that they find too many commands, websites, software, programs and too many service providers providing 101 different options to confuse the already confused individual. While there is a category of people like you who are willing to learn and be with the times by accepting the changes taking place, there will be more than 80 percent of the population in our country who have got used to a system in which they have spent all their life and they suddenly feel left out and see the system is outpacing them by leaps and bounds. Let us take the case of software version or a mobile phone the companies want to make money more than innovations and they want to thrust them on the market to run their respective shops and earn revenue in the process. As people grow and get aged they find it difficult to accept change and would like status quo. Now with economic reforms being thrust into peoples throats in India we are going to see more of these problems coming to the fore. This can be tackled as it is a blessing in disguise. The government has to invest by providing jobs to people in IT sector to teach and enable the rest of India to move forward. If they do this they can provide employment to youth and elders will be digitally educated. Orientation courses have to be conducted on a mass scale. I have written three to four articles about demonetisation and its impacct in the forum in Knowledge is Power Use It Wisely. A good article written by you touching on an important aspect of common mans life especially senior citizens.

      • You are right when you say upgrades are made just to earn and not to improve the life of anyone. Not many will use those additional features but just get those upgraded gadgets to compete with others.
I have a basic mobile with no internet facility. I prefer my pc for that. The screen is so small and that could be a strain on one’s eyes. And now with digitisation everywhere I may have to change it to a smartphone most unwillingly though.

It is a modern technological wonder and if I am not wrong the only one in the world at that. No other project of that sort and magnitude has taken place. Travel to Europe if on individual travel is a different one compared to the groups. • You have touched upon a very important subject. Yes computers have taken over jobs of secretaries and many others like accountant’s, record keepers, typists, telephone operators and others. This is one of the negative fallout’s of new technology arriving. Computers, tablets, cellphones with I phones have become like calculators today. They have taken away many of the jobs like the one mentioned above. Even the bank ATM is one such product. So is email. Today we find people sending money and gifts or payments and mails through electronic systems due to its many advantages. Now with new economic reforms in India this problem is only going to aggravate. Children in schools have computers but the knowledge is limited to a large extent and they do not want to pursue it till the tenth class as their are no marks for that subject and they do not count in the final tally. They end up like a blank page when they pass tenth class. Then go for computer courses paying huge fees in a volatile market. Many of their years thus get wasted. Educationists have to seriously look into this anomaly and do course correction. To get a good crop of very well computer literate youngsters.

      • Those computer courses teaching how to work on a computer are a waste. I bought those books – Windows for Dummies and picked up from there. A friend of mine guided me and that was it. Today I can do many things on my computer including creating movies and slideshows.

In the 1960s, when this stage of Women’s Rights began, I really believed that equality was achievable. I really believed that it would be different.

I went on many marches, attended many rallies, joined many […]

    • You may think me a simpleton for saying this but I don’t really concern myself with being accepted as an “equal” by anybody in this life. I know God made us all and in His eyes we are equal and will be judged by Him fairly and without respect as to our gender. So whatever my hands find to do in this life, I do it! I like the way my friend and fellow home biz Sonia Colon put it: “Don’t let what you can’t do, interfere with what you can do.”

Sure! Discrimination and inequality sucks! But count each day you accomplish anything you set out to do a success. Hey! God could have hindered you from achieving your goal. But instead He gave you the tools and the talent and opened a door for you! When God opens a door, no man close it. (Rev 3:8)

Yes I know. I am a syrupy sweet unrealistic idealistic dreaming idiot! But I like me that way! 🙂

      • no. It’s like going to South Africa and telling people they should be happy with Apartheid or to the slave plantation and tell them how their slavery was ‘ordained’.

        • Oh I wasn’t saying to be happy and satisfied with oppression, discrimination, inequality or anything that’s wrong. I was saying OVERCOME.

You can only overcome if you have the mind to recognize what you can do versus what you can’t. You can make it your mission in life to fight gender inequality. Many women have. But as you say the “inequality” still exists. To hear you talk about where you live, i.e. Jamaica. You’ve got a much bigger problem than gender inequality. In your case, the government corruption is what needs to be tackled. Because it seems like everybody is unequal: male or female.

By the way, slavery was never “ordained” if you use that word to indicate “Divine approval”. That’s just a plain old lie. There are three Divine institutions: marriage, family and the “called out” who respond to the gospel message Jesus preached. The first 2 institutions were created for living a happy life in this world. Of course, mankind screwed that up! The 3rd one transcends or goes beyond this world. Mankind can’t screw that up. They don’t have any power. They can’t even reach heaven.

          Back to you. 🙂

          • Not to nitpick, but Scripture does recognise slavery and there are particular provisions for the slave who does not leave etc.

The key feature with any kind of oppression is the internalisation of inferiority.

If you notice, for example, how Trump denigrated women, yet how women voted for Trump you will view the key feature of this self oppression.

            • You’re not nit-picking. I enjoy talking to you. You remind me of when I had passion and thought there something I could do in this life to make a difference.

With respect to people who voted in the US presidential election, it was their individual choice. I’m not a mind reader and don’t really care to know what their reasoning was. They have to live with their conscience. I don’t. But all of America has to live with the voters’ choice. We’ll survive, if it’s God’s will.

With respect to human beings, they are those who believe in equality and know we are all created equal versus others who think they are superior. What is worse is some actually believe they are inferior. Sad but true. We all have our own free will. We all control our minds.

I truly believe there was a real man named Lazarus. There is no indication that he was a slave. But he was poor, the dogs licked his sores and he was living in a most pitiful state, as far as the human eye could see, and he died that way. But no matter that this life for him was most miserable, he was judged faithful when he departed, and received his reward by being granted a rest forever in a place called “Abraham’s bosom”. The rich man whose name we do not know also received his just reward.

With respect to the scriptures, it is a holy book that contains enough of a record of the history of mankind to paint a clear enough picture of what humanity did to screw up a world that was good, “in the beginning”. Recognizing that slavery existed (exists) in this world and telling both the Christian master and/or the Christian slave that they are really both equal and will be judged by the same God in the next world … puts life – this short life and eternal life – in perspective. Faithful Christians are taught how to live in peace and to be content no matter what the circumstances. Why? Because this life is temporary and will be over before you know it. It’s a “vapor”. It’s the next life that matters.

Happy to talk to more. It will have to be later. Right now I’m getting ready for bed. 🙂

    • save girl child save a generations

    • It is an important subject. Regarding the American elections I felt it was one of the bitterly fought and nastiest elections I have ever seen. I for one thought America will like to vote for a woman as their first president and it was the right time now in the twenty first century. We now know that was not to be. I understand the passion you feel when it comes to the above topic which is well written. I have also observed this in workplaces where the women boss tries to browbeat other women employees. I wonder what makes them do such a nasty thing to any human being be it a man or women.

But to be fair to women there have been innumerable cases of women who have come to the top with sheer grit, tenacity, determination and resolve. My salute to such women who made it despite such great odds. They are the right role model for many girl children especially. As even they can have a dream of being in such a position one day if they follow their role model’s footsteps. Society is changing slowly all over the world. In Asia and in a few years you will be finding more women at the top reaching great heights which even they are entitled to.

      • As you noticed with your boss, self-hatred continues. The woman at the top doesn’t feel she ‘belongs’ there and sees other women as threats. In the American election that women voted for a man who spits on them only proves that there have been no gains.

    • That is the sad reality with our children and they are not at fault as the parents who give them birth and leave them on the roads are the ones responsible so is the government which does not provide playgrounds and also converts existing playgrounds in government offices or marriage halls. Is a good thing you did not tell anything to the children anything as they would have answered you back since they do not know you. This should be a collective responsibility. Maybe next time you can befriend them and sensitise them about this topic to create awareness among them.

    • Krishna Kumar, thanks for showing the other side of the picture. You have rightly pointed out the role of the parents and the governments. Our governments spend most of their time in finding ways to prolong their tenure. Opposition parties do not give them a free hand to complete their term. The result is seen in the form of sit-ins and protests.so they do not have time to think that our children are in need of parks and playgrounds where they could spend their spare hours.

    • A regular problem what television viewers would be facing has been neatly covered in the topic as to how things can be planned in a better way for the best result in getting entertained by the medium and not to become a slave of the medium. Many of the programs which we view would be disturbed due to different reasons and we cannot start at right place again immediately. My view to this is I like to watch program’s which are of one serial and less than one hour duration as we do not have to worry about the subsequent ones . We can always view them if we get time or else we can skip them. But for people who view serials regularly the above tips are very useful. An interesting writing covering many aspects of television and entertainment industry.
