The week spent in foreign country can inspire you for the rest of the year, when you are waiting for the next trip. But sometimes tour lasts a little longer. Month, half year, whole year longer. It seems that this is a great opportunity to experience an authentic lifestyle of other country, but after a while start to fade the charm of environment and a longing for home and relatives invade into the everyday experiences more often. I lived in Italy for three months, and although this fact did not cease to amaze still myself, I would be lying if I say that never wanted to speed up the flow of time for to faster could return home. From the beginning I was looking for ways to make my experience as possible more impressive.
If it happened to live longer in foreign country, the first and most important step, at least in my eyes, is the daily trip outdoor. Travel around the city to explore the surrounding areas. Try to listen to the new language, watch as local live and survive in the city. In such way you get to know place where you live. Sometimes more active recreation is even more effective. And perhaps you will feel better after tour outside than just lying in bed. Just try. This often happened to me – it looked that I do not want to go anywhere, but usually did not regret after going for a walk. You can’t say that you got to know any country if all time spent indoor.
We must use the opportunity to travel when we residence in an unfamiliar city. Who knows when we come back here again? Often, the city offers a new activity – walk all over proposed museum, parks and squares, galleries and cafes. It is possible that you will find something interesting and close to you, get to know new people.
New contacts are a prime way to know a new culture. Especially having dinner together! Also the stories about their land from local lips and by such interviews you best understand how we all are similar to each other. We get up in the mornings, go to work, resting. I like local ask what their favorite place in the city is. And then I visit it. Travel with them as well as fun.
The third aspect I want to mention is the perspective. Sometimes you need to distance yourself from your routine, your small world, and to look at the whole situation keeping some distance and to think. How much time left for you here? What do you have to do, to see before leaving? Why are people from the other side of the world traveling here? What local people most value? Sometimes helps tourist guides – Internet or pocket book. The cuisine of country is one more good way to get acquainted with a new culture.
Whenever happens with you abroad, evaluate your experiences as educating and growing. So much can be learned by living alone in a foreign culture. Of course, sometimes it is difficult, but the difficulties nurture you. And learn to survive each experience.
