Learn to identify and control your emotions.

In everyday life we are constantly faced with many emotions that arise and change depending on the situation or rather its perception and interpretation. The emotion, it is an objective, a brief response to internal or external stimuli. This includes physiological changes, behavior, and conditional reflex.

For example, when someone is very frightened, for example, human silhouette in a dark alley, a public speech before an audience, waiting exam – our heart starts beating faster, we are sweating, sweating our palms and we begin to behave protecting ourselves: we escape, rehearsing the language for a long time, learning overnight.

Painful emotion regulation is one of the main behavioral problems for most people. Dysfunctional behavior, including suicidal behavior, use of psychoactive substance, overeating, emotional depression, excessive control often becomes as decision for intolerably painful emotions. Emotion regulation is the ability to control or influence the resulting emotions when they arise. One of the most important components to make it more consciously controlled is to learn to understand and identify the emotions.

Emotions are inherent in our biology; it prepares our body for functioning. They save our time, occurs in situations where there is no time to think about, where we need extremely quick action. For example, when a person is under attack, resulting anger can lead to self-defense, attack the attacker to protect themselves.

In communication with others we use facial expressions, through which communication is faster than words. Also communication makes use of body language, tone of voice. Certain emotions have an automatic effect on other people.

For example, a child spontaneously reacts to fright or adult smiles. No matter we like it or not but our sent emotional messages sent influence others.

Emotional responses provide important information about the situation; emotions are like an alarm that something was going on. The sensations in the abdominal area can be sort of intuition – a response to something important. It is important to mention that sometimes we accept emotions as if they were facts. And the stronger the emotion is, the stronger the belief that it is based on facts. With emotions associated thoughts should be checked, taking into account the facts, but do not ignore the facts. Emotional features identification, particularly unwanted emotions is an important first step toward change.

Some babies are born emotionally more sensitive than others, and they can remain such not only in childhood but also in adulthood. Humans learn to regulate their emotions from early infancy when exchanging emotions with the mother. However, not all parents themselves have the necessary skills or a desire. Parents who are unable to regulate their own emotions, it is very difficult to teach a child.

Observation of emotions and their description improves the ability to regulate them. By learning to observe the emotions, the man learns to distinguish himself from the emotions, not to identify with them. In order to control emotional responses, it is necessary to separate yourself from emotion, to be able to think and to use coping strategies. It is also important to learn to identify emotions as part of the self, rather than something that is on the outside.
