Is social media good or bad

On one side, social media is one of the prime reason why terrorism has spread across countries.It has made communication between terrorists easy. It has also become a source of promoting terrorism and radicalizing youths. In addition to this it has become a way to post objectionable content, spread hatred. On the other hand, i have heard how social media has helped people grow businesses, create friendships, help people, raise charity.

I heard one heartwarming story of how social media helped a person in desperation. As you guys know the syrian war has torn apart the nation and its citizens.One of the citizen was a bakery owner who lost everything in the war. He was reduced to selling pens weeping on the street with a 5 year old daughter on his shoulders. A guy from france got the information and photo of him selling pens. He with a good intention posted his story and photo on social media with tag Buypen and soon the good samaritans pitched in and donated huge amounts of money for him. And at the end, money was handed over to him helping him start rebuilding his future.

We have also seen during natural disasters, how social media has helped relief reach the needy at the right time and how it has saved many lives.Social Media has also became a medium to reach people across borders and to know them more. Before social media entered the scene, people only interacted with their family people, business acquaintances only. Interacting with strangers was a far cry at that time. But with social media’s entry, one can talk with so many strangers and those same strangers became most trusted and best friend and sometimes even life partners. So just like we say “a knife cuts an apple” and it can also cut a person’s throat. So it all depends on how one uses it and one should hope that we and all other people on this earth should and will use it for the world’s betterement
