India needs to win abroad to justify World No 1 ranking

Yes. We have been all, of late singing praises for the Indian Test team for defeating all test teams and reigning in as World No 1. But one also needs to understand that all this season, we have been largely playing at home. Since Dhoni’s era, we have been literally unbeatable at home defeating even the biggest team: Australia 4-0. But this can largely attributed to the pitches they have been playing. No disrespect to the wins. There is no doubt that even playing on that surface needs skill and capability to outwit the team. But at the same time, home team gets the advantage of knowing the cons and pros of the pitch, which the opposite does not know. And our players very well know how to play and which bowlers to utilize. The real test will come when India goes abroad and plays in alien conditions. How the team adapts and outplays the home team shows the real capability of this team. Largely indians have been poor winning in abroad. Especially against strong teams like Australia, the indians have meekly surrendered and that’s just something indians cannot afford to repeat if it really wants to justify its World No 1 Ranking. According to me, i would only agree with India’s No 1 ranking only if it goes abroad and wins there convincingly. No 1 ranking is just not a number, its the power, invincibility that shows up in that number. And that’s something Australia in recent times and West Indies in older times have shown. Australia during its strong times, they were just invincible. Does not matter which country they played, which team they played against, they thrashed them. Same with west Indian who were more dominant than the australians. Home pitches, abroad pitches never mattered to them. From the whistle go, they destructed every single team.
