Importance of insects in our life

Insects and human, insects and nature, are related for ever. Insects are so powerful and widely distributed. They have mass influence on human and environment.

Many insects are considered to be pests by humans, but They are also very important for numerous reasons.

The most important function of insects is pollination of flowering plants. Flowering plants are the  main source of food and moisture for the majority of insects. At the same time, most of the flowering plants depend of insects-pollinators.

Insects are crucial components of may ecosystems, where they perform many important functions. they aerate the soil, pollinate flowers, and control insect and plant pests. Insects like lady bugs eat up aphids and other insect larva which  grow on crops. Thus these lady bugs act as pest killers to save the crop.

Many insects like ant, beetles etc eat up or carry away dead and decaying matter. Thus they consume them and clear of waste matter from the environment.

Insects have a big economic importance to us. Some insects produce useful substances, such as honey, wax, lacquer, silk etc. Adult insects, such as crickets, are used as fishing bait.

Shellac is a vary valuable product produced by Indian lac insects living on certain kind of trees. This lac is used in making toys, paints, and other valuable products and are widely used in radio engineering.

Bees wax is used in making cosmetics ( lotions, creams, lipsticks kajal etc.),  candles, furniture waxes, leather dressing, medicinal ointment etc.

Many species of insects such as mealy bugs, coccus cacti etc provide dyes that we use in many products including cosmetics, for coloring cakes, medicines ans beverages.

Honey is one of the beehive’s principle food resources. It is produced from droplets of flower nectar gathered by worker bees. Honey is used as primary sweetener or as a substitute of refined sugar. It is also used in medicine.

Silk is the strongest natural fiber produced by silk worm. It is an expensive fiber, used for  making beautiful clothes.

Insects are food of birds, amphibians, fishes, lizards. Thus they making their roles in food chains extremely important.

In some parts of the world, insects are used for food by humans. Insects are a rich source of protein, vitamins and minerals.Among the most popular are cicadas, locusts, mantises, grubs, caterpillars, crickets, ants, and wasps.

Insects are used in medical field. Poison from spiders, scorpions, is used in chronic pain relief. In the past, maggots were used to treat wounds to prevent gangrene.

Even the dirty mosquitoes also have importance in our economy. The fortunes of a host of companies are linked to India’s mosquito woes. The household insecticide market in India is growing fast.

Apart from everything, the esthetical role of butterflies, moths, dragonflies and other insects are very important to us.
