What is Schema Mark Up and how does it help Rank a Website in Google? Schema Mark Up is a method to label information on your website in a way that search engines can understand. Remember, SEO is not really about rankings—it’s about generating website traffic from search engines. Using schema mark up will improve the way your website is displayed in search results. When used properly, the search results will display as a “rich snippet” which provides a variety of additional information like product or service price, ratings, reviews and other details. This type of display improves click-through rate, leading to more search traffic. Although integrating schema mark up into your website maybe complicated, you only need to set it up once. And it’s definitely worth the effort. SEO INFORMATION FROM GOOGLE WEBMASTER GUIDELINES Google recommends the following to get better rankings in their search engine: Make pages primarily for users, not for search engines. Don’t deceive your users or present different content to search engines than you display to users, a practice commonly referred to as “cloaking.” Make a site with a clear hierarchy and text links. Every page should be reachable from at least one static text link. Create a useful, information-rich site, and write pages that clearly and accurately describe your content. Make sure that your <title> elements and ALT attributes are descriptive and accurate. Use keywords to create descriptive, human-friendly URLs. Provide one version of a URL to reach a document, using 301 redirects or the rel=”canonical” attribute to address duplicate content. Use short forms and acronyms. Many times people search for a product using colloquial terms or a nickname. These are especially common with products. For example: “OJ” instead of “orange juice” “cock sauce” instead of “Sriracha” “AC” instead of “air conditioner” “jockey box” instead of “portable draft unit”
