HOW CAN FEDERALISM AFFECTS THE PHILIPPINES

Federalism is the solution to Philippine’s love for corruption, it will stop Congressman , Mayors, governors, influence in a federal state other than their own, for federal tax is limited only to their own federal state. As far as our corrupt culture is concerned is another problem at least corruption will be limited to their own and will not infect the entire country. Mayors and Governors will be force to put the money where it belongs, It is easy to identify and trace where the people’s tax is going.

Basically, Federalism will mean a devolution of decision making to the regions. For example, bidding of inter regional infrastructure projects.  There will also be regional regulator requirements. This is already in existence. Minimum wage is already based on a regional wage scale. Other labor benefits may be also be promulgated on a regional basis. Even land use regulations may be done on a regional basis. There will be regional economic development plans. This could lead to regional tax incentives and even regional fees. People have the voice in the government. Different leaders represents their group, tribes, and ethnicity! The People’s Power. If the Leader fails, The people will lift him up. Every sentiments of the masses reaches the Government authority. Leaders from different sectors, tribes, ethnic groups pass the law for their benefits.

For people who don’t have any idea about Federalism, here is the definition, Federalism means Power is divided between the National Central Government and State or Regional Government. There is Government of each State. Federalism was a compromise, some powers belong to the National Federal Government and other power are belong to each State.

Federalism was introduced and studied by political scientists, in the USA. It was being tested and revived several times and now, still working great in the USA for more than 200 years.
