Homes for Seniors

Indians are not yet  attuned  to the idea of shifting to a senior’s home when situations call for such a move. 

Gone are the days when elders ruled the roost. Their word was law and this was when joint family system existed. Now it is a different story. Children leave the shores seeking greener pastures more from encouragement received from the elders. 

Little do elders realise that they will be left alone to fend for themselves with hardly any infrastructure around them to manage life. 

Today’s homes for seniors have several facilities that can make a senior comfortable. When seniors shift to such homes the children feel at ease thinking their loved ones are taken care of. How could children be available to care for their parents when they themselves need help to manage their own life. 

It is time that thought is nurtured even while parents are in their fifteen so that shifting does not become a heavy thought. 

It is not like in the olden days when senior homes were only for the destitute. These days there are homes for seniors which are meant for the financially independent. Every kind of facility be it a swimming pool, a gym, a joggers area, a library, a good eating place all this is included in a home for seniors so that it becomes a home away from home.  Seniors are bound to get ailments that are a privilege of seniors and in a home they can be taken care of with help around.  There is always a physiotherapist available o the premises.
