In Pakistan and India the shrines of saints have a peculiar neighborhood. There are many streets shops, shops selling various ornaments used by women and children.
This area also has a number of shops where rice is cooked and sold.
Some people come to these shops, purchase cooked rice and distribute it free amongst the people gathered there, forming queues.
Some of them usually form queues before the advent of the cooked rice in a big pot. These pots are very common in the sub -continent. They are available in different sizes and shapes. The smaller ones can contain ten kilograms of rice. The bigger ones can have twenty Kg of such material.
People who want to distribute food come to these shops. They discuss the matter with the owner and get rice for distribution among the people. In the meanwhile many more people come and add to the length of the queue.
The special point I want to emphasize here is that most of the people forming queues are the workers of the shopkeeper who take their rice and later on go inside the shop and pour it in another pot arranged for this very purpose.
I myself have seen this practice, so I want to bring it into the notice of my countrymen.
What I want to clarify is that a major portion of this rice goes back to the dealer who prepares another vessel and sells it to someone else willing to distribute alms. Actually he is the one who benefits from this process.
My personal opinion in this regard is that we should not allow people like the shopkeeper mentioned above to exploit us.
If we want to spend some amount in the name of God, we may make a good search in our locality.
We may find people who are needy. Some of them don’t even like to ask for something. There are many students who can’t afford buying books. There are widows who don’t know how to run their house. We should try to help these people.

If a person wants to help the needy, it should be in the free will. The sincerity should be seen genuinely and not for personal agendas. That's the bad behavior done by some people, especially in a political world. In some point, giving tangible things are overrated and done by some charities.Helping needy people is a noble deed and it is considered priceless.
There are other ways to give support to the marginalized people. The best thing is to acquire skills from well-skilled people. These soft skills can be transferred to sustain their basic needs and it can be in the form of training in livelihood or upgrade their professional skills.
