Half of my mind sleeps during travel

Sleeping experience in a new atmosphere

Have you ever felt that you can’t sleep well when you go to stay in a place away from your home? Actually I personally felt it whenever I happened to be to new places other than those where I visited previously and stayed in same hotels where I had already stayed earlier. Actually I was in a job that required me to travel a lot and therefore staying away from home was nothing new for me.

Brain, Train and Travel,

I have traveled a lot by train, road and air and while travelling long distances by train I found sleeping tough in a train. I would get up as soon as the train stopped at any station and then kept awake for a long time. It was more common during the first night of journey but I slept a little better the next night if the journey was that long. Yes, in some cases I stayed in the same train up to 60 hours so I know it was always difficult to sleep in a train for me especially when it was not running.

Guard Duty

I recently read a report that solved some of the sleeping mystery for me during travel and while staying in a new place. It said that brain of certain animals sleeps in phases that meant that right side of the brain of those animals sleeping but the left side was awake. The scientists said the left side of the brain was on ‘guard-duty’ in case any thing went wrong. That probably explained my sleeping habit too, I was probably not sure of safety of my luggage in a running train.

The report that I read about sleeping pattern of animals probably describes it clearly that our entire brain does not sleep while we sleep but some of it remains awake or active. I am not sure about how others feel in this matter but I know for sure that I often wake up when something extra ordinary happens with me or around me.
